Sandblasting Issues
I bought a large air compressor (Husky 60 gallon) for my new (Cyclone 3624) sandblaster. It is all hooked up and I am excited to work with it on my glass. I bought some rayzist for masking an image and I'm finding that it is blasting right off. It is either that I am not putting the masking material...

I love looking at the pictures of work but it seems that after I look at the first two posts, the others aren't available for view.

Re: Shipping Big Internationally
Thank you all for your help. Just an update: I hired a freight shipping service. They came and measured the pieces, made a crate then came and packed the crate on site. The glass made it to the destination safely and I am so very happy I went this route. I'm not a professional packer and glass I put...

Thanks Valerie, that may be it. It was scary crazy.
I just bought fire bricks from Home Depot and think I will use those.

Vitrograph Kiln set up
What should i use on the bottom of my vitrograph (Caldara) kiln? I bought a Vermiculite Board and it smoked and heated up the shelf, obviously not containing the heat and obviously not what I should have purchased. Someone on this board mentioned using cement board from Home Depot. Will that work an...

Re: Shipping Big Internationally
Bert, I was actually thinking of packing and shipping in that manner. What do you put in-between each panel and how would I pack them in the crate? I have double boxed and have used Bullseye's boxes with mostly success. Having 8 larger/heaver panels of two different sizes is a bit different than I u...

element breakage
I have a GF8 Clamshell Olympic kiln that is 1 1/2 years old. The lid has 4 separate elements and the third one continues to give me problems. After using the kiln about 6 months, it broke. I replaced it and it sagged down about 6 inches. I continued to run the kiln with the sagged element, putting o...

Re: Shipping Big Internationally
Michele,
When you say "crate" are you using wooden crates from uline or boxes? I have seen the wooden crates and thought about doing that.

Shipping Big Internationally
I am excited! I just received a commission for glass that will be installed in a hotel in Costa Rica. There are two pieces and each piece is constructed of four panels, two larger and two smaller, hung by a cable system. The total shipment will consist of four panels: 9" x 26" x 1/2" ...

wattage rating
I'm trying to put into my controller information so I can figure out how much it costs for each firing. I know my charge per kilowatt hour but how and where do I get the wattage rating of my kiln?

stacking molds in kiln
Okay, I think this is a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway. I want to cure my kiln wash on my ceramic molds and need to pre-fire to 800 degrees. Can I stack the molds in the kiln while I do that?

Drop ring issues
So, I am in the process of making a fused glass font bowl for my church. They want the opening to be 12" with a lip and 6" deep. I have purchased a drop ring from Laurie Spray along with a 18 1/2" steel ring. I figured 3" overhang would be enough to hold. Laurie's rings have a li...

Olympic kiln problems
I have an Olympic kiln GF8CS. It was delivered 14 months ago. Since I have gotten it, I have had to replace a lid element a few months back and now I received an error message E--2 which implies a relay problem. (The lid elements do not shut off when the kiln is plugged in.) I replaced the relay for...

Re: Kiln Relays
Well I have to say I'm a bit POed anyway. My Olympic GF8 is 14 months old and already I had to replace a broken top element (which they sent me free of charge) and now an error message. Although I haven't been able to call yet (will be calling tomorrow AM), the error E--2, is either a stuck relay or...

Kiln Relays
How many of you out there change your kiln relays on a regular basis? And if you do, how often do you change them? I have had two minor melt-downs with no real big damage but don't want to keep taking such big chances with such pricey equipment. I was thinking about changing them annually along with...

Failing Silicone: another option?
I am so frustrated. I have been using GE Silicone II for many years with only one issue about two years ago. That was from using an out-of-date tube of silicone that didn't cure. I use the silicone to adhere my glass panel to masonite or wood board. Since the summer, I have had nothing but problems....

Re: Hanging a fused glass panel
Thanks Mark and Eryc.
I know I want to have it without a frame at all and want it to have more of a "floating" look. I think drilling may be the way to go. The gap is small so the option of using cable hanging systems that I have used in the past is not possible.
