PID temperature controllers
I bought a "Plug & Play" PID temperature controller (non ramping model) to use with a small test kiln which just has an infinite switch. I realize all these inexpensive PID's are not exactly the same, but from what I've noticed they share a lot of setup similarities, such as display, p...

Re: gasket material
Ok, so I need to improve my lid closing skills :D . Perhaps had I uploaded the pic I'm about to and further explained why I want a durable gasket I might have gotten a more definitive answer. As I eluded to, I have dropped the lid accidentally once or twice. It caused a crack in the wall and some li...

Re: gasket material
As in the 2" fibre paper strips sold for dams? Is that stuff durable enough? I haven't been around it but I thought it was more like thick thinfire..... which I would think would fall apart after a few firings.DonMcClennen wrote:use 1/8" fibre

Re: gasket material
When I said drop I didn't mean that literally, though I did drop it once accidentally. I'd still prefer to have a bit of cushion as the 2 surfaces meet.

gasket material
I have a small square kiln that I use for test purposes. It's a top loader and it's brick on brick when I drop the lid. What would be the best material to adhere to the top of walls where it meets the lid that would provide a softer landing when I close the lid? It would probably need to be 1/16 or ...

glasses for kiln work
Is there a 'best' shaded glasses for kiln work? Or is it just a matter of preference. As I was led to believe years ago, flame working glasses aren't the proper way to go, or was I misled? I've tried everything from welder's cutting goggles, and many different shade of sunglasses, and nothing allows...

morph tube furnace into vitrigraph kiln
Howdy... I need some help understanding what is probably pretty basic stuff revolving around kiln design. I scrounged an old tube furnace which had burned out elements that I'm trying to replace & modify into a vitrigraph kiln of sorts. Basically it's an 18" high x 10" OD cylindrical f...

Re: BE 1101 clear powder problem
Thanks all.... NOW I REMEMBER!. It's been about 4 years since I've fired anything due to a sell house/move/re-locate/setup shop again, and many things I used to know have become foggy (like the 1101 clear powder) in my aging head. It's good to be back though and I'm certain there are lots of little ...

BE 1101 clear powder problem
Howdy folks.... I've had an ongoing issue anytime I've used BE 1101 clear powder as a cap or as grout between other pieces. It always, always, always fires foggy, wispy white kind of. I usually fire to around 1500 when I use it. I've actually shied away from it by using other methods, but today I tr...
