To extend this thread a bit, there's an artist who has a patent on the following technique (as far as I can tell) to make architectural glass panels: Colored acrylic is laser cut to make a jig-saw like assembly of elements. These are then sandwiched between two lights of clear glass. Now, I ask you,...

Paul- I found kilnwash on verm board fine for slumping but not for fusing. I'd assume you'd need a more serious separator for casting as well. I think the problem is that the surface is so irregular- but maybe I didn't coat it well enough with kilnwash. Did it stick? Breakdown? I'd like to go to 14...

skamol and kiln wash
Has anybody tried fusing or slumping on Skamol prepared with kiln wash?
Would like to be able to carve it (perhaps on a CNC machine) and coat with wash for a reusable slumping or kilncasting mold. Has that been tried? Does Skamol break down after repeated firings?

I would call GEMFAIRE and get a clarification. I'm required to carry Workers Comp for studio assistants and it's based on my annual payroll. However, there is an exclusion for me as an officer of the company. Did a quick search for Workers Compensation California and found this link which may be use...

Never done exactly what you're proposing, but I have laminated lots of fused glass to plate, wirh silicone. Trowel an even coating, press fused glass into it. Brock Can't imagine you can use silicone without getting bubbles - some look like ferns and may not appear until several months later. Not a...

Christyn People love blue. I hope it works out for you. Look up Paul Houseman's website. I think it is Glassprojects.com. If I got that wrong, I'm sure it is in his info on the member list. Paul does some really nice large scale installations consisting of relatively small components. It's Paul Hou...

CR Laurence supplies hinges that clamp to the glass with nylon screws, but depending on the weight, how the glass is supported and how it is used, they may not be adequate. Frameless doors, railings, etc. are frequently made with glass that is drilled and then tempered and they are surprisingly stro...

On smaller commissions I may require a 50% deposit and 50% upon completion/installation which usually means within 30 days. On larger projects I will ask for 50% to start, 40% upon completion and PRIOR TO DELIVERY, 10% within 30 days after installation (which usually means 60, 90, 120 days and I hav...

I like the clarity of Spectrum and it's possible to fuse it with almost no bubbles. And, it's less expensive. I like Bullseye for the range of colors and because at higher temperatures—kilncasting into a depression mold, for example—it seems to flow better. There's something to be said for becom...

Re: Piano
Well, I think Don Burt is being disingenuous. The logical extension of this belief is that there is no such thing as skill. Anyone who's ever mastered any activity that for them was initially difficult—and that includes everybody—would argue otherwise. Both fused glass and glassblowing require ...

. . . Technique that draws attention to itself at the expense of the aesthetic merits of a piece does not make for good work no matter how much skill it demands. And work that is simply about virtuosity of technique also does not make for good work. Well then, how do you explain the amazing success...
