slumping disaster.

I had a disaster in my kiln the other day, and don't understand what happened. I fused two ( 15 inches) circles of glass together, black - 90 Coe, and rainbow iridized on black - 90 COE, and the fusion piece was fine. I then masked off the piece with vinyl resist and cut out a pattern on the iridize...

this is going to be a simple, beginners question..... When I a slumping a single layer of glass onto a mold, do I first fire polish the sides in a separate firing ( and to what temp?) and then slump???? I have been grinding the sides with my little diamond grinder, but it chips the glass too much......

Tony, the age old question.... would you purchase silicone carbide or aluminum oxide medium ( I'm not even sure those are the correct names..) when purchasing a new sandblaster?? I looked at the 780 TL model and it looks good...... thanks for the lead. barbara

I read all the comments on this topic and was curious how the change in temperatures over the seasons would affect the glass top? Could someone explain this to me? Do you recommend that the customers take the tables inside all winter long? Thanks. barbara
