Re: Annealing question...
I fire both in my larger kilns often. I anneal at 950 and then at 900 and see no problems even on larger work.

Re: Compatibility Shift
I recently did a high fire Bubble Pot Melt where I dripped onto White 0013. Day after firing the entire layer of white cracked away from the flow leaving it intact. I am sure it was do to a shift.

Not sure what kind of former.....but if it is one of ours i would just line it with your 1/8" paper and use it. The paper will seperate it from your next work.

Re: firing irid, face-down
nina......may I suggest.......I spray Bullseye kiln wash on a freshly ground and cleaned shelf when I am firing irid down. I fire it to 1410 with fabulous results. Spraying gives it a different look then thin fire or brushed kiln wash. Be careful if you try this to not touch the surface of the shelf...

Re: Boron Nitride after Kiln Wash?
I would never sandblast one of my ceramic molds. Seems too harsh, could cause damage to the mold and really not necessary . To get old kiln wash off it just sakes fine sand paper or a green scrubbie. Although we are a supplier for MR97 I do not use it on my Bottomless Molds. You can....but I just do...

Re: Bottomless Molds - traditional slumping method?
We have been making our "Bottomless Molds" for almost 10 years now. They are fired just like you would any other slumping mold but you are guaranteed to always have a non rocking floor to your glass creation when using them. I got very tired of rocking bottoms on art pieces that were slump...

Re: ideas: cleaning glass & marking molds
I like to mark my molds also. I do it with a ceramic pencil (does not burn off) under the lip. I position them on the shelf so that I can read the size without picking them up. I stack my mold gently so this saves alot of time.

I use a small inexpensive hand sander. Takes 2 minutes for a large shelf....clean and smooth! I use rough sandpaper.

The way we pack ours they shrink around 25%! I love your idea anout the plaster for the base! We are doing some 12" pipe that I have been putting kiln stilts around or a few wired together with nichrome wire.

Re: fusing youghegheny
jerry.....it would be much easier to determine a fix if you added a picture. Other than that ramp, in my opinion, being much too fast......if the single sheet of glass was not completely covered with frits you would blow holes from not enough volume. I do not think firing on theshelf was the problem.
