Re: Damn burst, kiln needs cleaning!

That element is a gonner. Save yourself the frustration and remove the glass, patch the area and replace the element.

Re: Genesis lg format kiln

Hang in their Bonnie. You can do it! We did the front wall and the side walls. The back has rust but when it drops it never gets on the work but falls behind the shelf. It is an amazing site when you see it with the blanket off. It is for sure a two person job when you try to position the blanket wi...

Blood!!

So i am building a very compicated and time consuming strip piece in a stainless steel ring......I just dropped a large drop of blood from a cut onto the already set up strips. I hate to take it all apart.....dang......do you think it will just burn off at full fuse?

Re: Stupid question: kiln wash

I have never had success reusing Bullseye shelf paprer. It may have something to do with the fact that I use such a variety of glass in each load.....opaques, trans, 96,90 etc. although some pieces may lift off fairly clean..... Even a little uneveness will show on the back of the next piece especia...

Re: Stupid question: kiln wash

I use Bullseye shelf paper in every load in my Genesis. I kiln wash my shelf 1 solid layer maybe once every 30-40 firings. That in mind.....if you put it on too thick and starts to chunk off you will see those indents on the bottom of your pieces right thru the shelf paper. That is why I only brush ...

Re: Jewelry -stick and smooth, not melt

If you have a saw I think the easier way to go is to make a slab the thickness you want the then to cut them up and fire polish. nice flat edges, straight lines!
Just a thought!

Re: More about melts

It is not clear to me from your post - you do pot melt AND THEN stainless steel mesh melt??? if so - why do'nt you do mesh melt directly?? no....I do a pot melt from one of my hand thrown pot melt pots into a stainless steel form whether it be a square, rectangle, triangle or round. The stainless st...

Re: More about melts

IMG_0808.JPG I use mostly opaques. What I do is to use around 50 - 60% white opaque and let that blend with the colors. Too much dark of course turns the whole melt dark. these are 1 1/2" thick pot melts into a stainless steel former. I have found that when I mix in any transparent into an opa...

Let's not start talking waistlines but I would sure love a Krispy Kreme with this cup of coffee I just made.

Bert ....that does sound like a nightmare.......

We have found that most international shipping is best cost thru USPS which I am always surprised by.

Re: Schedule help and other questions.

Well said Bob..... I was thinking moreof the
kiln did not have a "skip segment" as my skutts do not. My genesis does and it comes in very handy.

Re: Schedule help and other questions.

In my kilns.......if I peek and want to stop the cycle i just stop the program. I will then enter a new program for the annealing cycle. If you want to stop something from getting hotter just vent your kiln for a min or so by holding your lid open a few inches. You need to keep an eye on the temp. N...
