school project
I am helping with a fundraiser for a local school. The kiddos are each going to make 2" tiles that will be assembled at school and transported to our studio and fired into a platter. Question.....the only glue I have ever used in my own work is super glue....which is not good for kids to use. I...

Re: How to dry frit
I would personally not wash it......but if you really feel the need i would spred it on cookie sheets and dry on a firing kiln. Stir after a few hours. Be sure to screen out the glass dust.

I would call Uro and ask them who they suggest that carries the supplies you need whether wholesale or retail.

Depending on the pump you can usually open it up and make sure there is not some form of junk in it. If that does not solve it......for the time being just add another inexpensive pump with plastic tubing and a bucket of water. We all know there is nothing worse then having equipment down while tryi...

Hate to say it cause I do like Aftosa for some items but I have seen these bookends. Cheezy is the word that comes to mind. Don't waste nice glass on them!

Re: Drilling in Bisque
If they are shallow try them without holes.......no need If they are deeper and you feel you have to drill them i just use a dremmel with a diamond rough with water but.......get thru the clay and them reem it to the size you want.....not very big. When you use kiln was be sure it does not clog up y...

Re: Re-Priming Kiln Shelf
If you have left any old kiln wash on the shelf (sometimes it is hard to see it) it can cause flaking in new layers. Either that or you are just putting it on too thick. I ise a hand sander with rough sandpaper to clean off old kiln wash. Works like a charm.

Re: Iridized glass
I am sure that is nonfusable art glass. That being said ....try fusing a double piece of it irid down. I say double piece as you cannot be sure of the coe so you should use it with itself. The irid will probably remain on the down side although it will be matt. When slumping the piece do not fire to...

Re: Clay texture plate/ kiln carving mold
The main issue will be that there can be absolutely no moisture in your clay slab. This time of year....when there is more moisture in the air......you need to dry clay longer. I put all of our clay pieces on a hot kiln over night while glass is firing. Sometimes for 2 nights. We do bisque fire ever...

I use clay formers that I throw........
basically a large vase inverted. You do have to use 1/8" fiber blanket over it even with kiln wash but they work great.

Re: Adding glass during a slump ?
I am really unclear on what you are trying to accomplish but......could you not heat up the frit in a seconf kiln to around 800 where it is not hot enough to melt but hot enough to not cause shock when added? I have NO idea......just thinking out load.

Re: Considering switching to Bullseye glass
I am with Shawn. You can use both. We do and i love both. The only one that we have to be extra careful with is the clear. We mark ALL clear scraps that are of a usable size with a black marker before they leave the cutting table.
Each glass has some looks that are unavailable in the other......

Re: Adding glass during a slump ?
 John.......you are so far beyond my glass experience.....but....all i can say is that i do occasionally add glass (in frit not powder) to a piece that is fusing. The worse case scenerio is that as you are adding it some glass scatters and gets into the coils on you red hot kiln. That is an ea...
