Re: Pacemaker and kiln

Tony, Thanks for the technical info. It will help when I call the pacemaker manufacturer to ask questions. Although it is easy to stay a foot away from the kiln most times, I am wondering about combing. My kilns are Canadian and therefore wired to shut off the minute you open the switch. But that's ...

Pacemaker and kiln

I've just had a pacemaker implanted and am wondering about the magnetic fields around my kilns. My husband can detect fields going on and off using a compass. Does anyone else with a pacemaker use larger kilns on a regular basis.

Canadian Suppliers

Gail,
I tried your weblink to Canadian suppliers and couldn't get it to work. Please check that it is correct in your message.

I'd love to know where to get things besides glass. Too bad more Canadian companies don't have great websites.

Gail's suggestion of a directory of Canadian suppliers is great. I'm forever ordering stuff from US websites, but later find obscure suppliers in Canada.

Phil, I had a great meeting with Terry yesterday and he showed me their equipment and gave me lots of ideas for making my own. He also directed me to BEE and I called them this morning. Their price for the large wet belt sander that Living Arts Centre has is $1698. It's probably too big a machine fo...

Thanks -- I know my website is down -- just when I want to do some promotion of fall shows. The system operator who manages the host site is off in Europe on his honeymoon so I'm stuck until he gets back. I'd scream at him ... but he is my son and his prices are great!

Thanks for these replies. I had considered having my husband make a machine, but that will take a long time. I was looking for a faster, easier solution -- and some recourse if it didn't work. Complaining to my husband isn't always the best solution. However, it looks like I should sweeten him up an...

I was thinking of buying a disk grinder -- perhaps the 12" Crystalmaster Pro with diamond grinding disk and polishing pads. Maybe there is something else I should buy. Mostly I'm doing bowls and plates that have been combed ... and I find the surfaces and edges need some extra finishing. If you...

Cold working tools in Canada

I've been studying all the posts on cold working tools -- now want to buy some, but know I'll have big shipping and duty charges if I order from US web sites. Does anyone know of good suppliers in Canada? Lapidary suppliers around Toronto don't have 12" machines.

While I like evening events, stained glass shows much better in the daylight -- at least up here in Canada where the days are getting shorter.

Thinfire in Toronto

I'm told Hollandia has the new Bullseye thinfire but will only sell it by the full roll - 41" x 250'. Is there anyone in the Toronto area who wants to share a roll? Contact me directly at eleanor@brownridge.ca.
Thanks.

thin fire for combing

Has anyone tried the new thinfire at combing temperatures? I just bought some thinfire in Canada, but it may be the old stuff because it curls dreadfully -- ruined the front of my pieces even though I tried to hold it down with glass at the corners. It just tore apart between pieces of glass at comb...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I read them all and searched the archives -- then went out to my studio and used my hammer a little more aggressively on the back side. Behold the score ran and I've even managed to cut a circle. I guess I was just scared after feeling like a pro cutting regular glass...

Thanks for this thought Craig. I will see if larger pliers work. Have you successfully cut double thickness glass?

I see you are also in Mississauga. Are you doing kiln work here?

Cutting double thickness Spectrum 96

I have been fusing simple kitchen still life scenes (fruit, wine bottle etc.) on Spectrum 96 -- a 10" x 12" oval to use in stained glass. Two out of 3 times stress cracks developed originating from seams between the thick and thinner glass. I've tested all the coloured glass (Spectrum) and...
