YOu will need to learn about your kiln and how fast it heats and cool. I would suggest starting on low for about 30 mins and then slowly move upp the dial till about 1100 then high till you get where you want to go... then turn the machine to low and let the kiln cool.. when you get to about 1100 th...

Alice what type of mold are you using? ceramic? If so, you need to ramp it slow or else it will crack over time.. I go at 300 DPH.

If you have a clean crack and you can get the 2 pieces next to each other and then have a full sheet under it, it is no different than butting 2 different pieces of glass next to each other over or under a full sheet. If you are using irids you will get some pulling. It does work easier if the crack...

What type of glass was it? Was the crack along the wire? Did both pieces layers crack? Did it crack on the way up or the way down? ie was the crack partially healed? Do you have pictures?

Another question.. if they are both 2500 watts... and one has top elements only and one has top and side... on the second one how much power will go to the top elements? Will it get hot enough with just the top element? you might need to sides also to get to the top temp. Also, the sides will help i...

Is the second kiln square or still octagon? Are they both 15 amp or will the other one be 20 Amp.

I would recommend getting the controls. You can always just keep them on or off and this point and at a later date then you can use them.

You can get another knob for the infinate switch that will say low, medium, and high. Start the kiln on low and start heating your kiln, then switch it to medium till it gets to about 1000. Then you can put it on high till the temp you want.. Then slow it down again to get to annealing. Once you get...

Lynn, By going 9999 on the Bartlett and Orton Controllers is basically the same as AFAP on others. What it does is fires the relays at 100% instead of coming on and off to keep the temp going at the rate that you want. It also turns off the part of the controller that allows for checking for too muc...

The kiln is a GL22. The shelf is near the bottom. So, I would think about 8 inches.
