Have you tried using sand box sand as a seperator? It works great if you don't care about the back.

Brad, I like the readability of the new format. As was mentioned above the idea of a chat room for instant questions/answers or a way to ask a question to someone logged on at the same time would be great. Just last week I had a piece in the kiln and had a question that I would have loved to ask som...

Barbara,
You can also use cchildren's play sand as a seperator.

Problem solved....... The new paper is flatter and seems to be firing things hotter. We slowed the ramp up to allow for the air to escape. We were only getting the bubble in the kiln that fires the fastest of the ones we have. The thought is that since the paper is flatter (and may more dense), and ...

Bubbles with the new Bullseye fiber paper

This was a process that we have been doing for years. The only difference is the new Bullseye sheets. Shelf is coated. Then covered with the new paper. Single sheet of thin bullseye covered with strips of glass with frit between the strips. Bubbles have happened on multiple firings. Has anyone else ...

Re: thinfire observation

lo and behold when I removed my projects the tine fire stated on the shelf intact and looked as though it was ready to go again. Being a chicken and afraid of ruining my next project and the shelf I removed the thinfire. Has anyone had this happen and did they reuse it and was it OK? Ann Demko I ha...

You can also check a local cabinet supply house or a place like plywood and plastics.

Greg, Thanks for getting back to me. I will answer the questions in order they were asked. I will do this in public in case it might help others. 1) Is this the first time this has ever happened to you? This is the first time that this has happened 2) How long after you finished working did the numb...

Is there anyway to not get the distortion with a steep sided square mold? Maybe going slower?

Annj,
Is your smaller kiln a quick fire that goes up fast? If so, then the air in the kiln gets hotter that the glass. In a larger kiln when it gets hotter slower then the glass is closer to the air temp. That is why you have to fire hotter in a quick kiln than in a larger kiln.

Sarah,
Is the size of the mold the same as the glass, ie that the only thing that it can do is slump down. Or is it rippling like a hangerchief vase and the mold is smaller and the glass ripples when it slumps?

Thanks everyone for the insights. It is a shame that I don't play a musical instrument. I was trying to figure out what key the fingers were vibrating in. Ok, so not all of my jokes are good. I will take more breaks and also break up what I am doing instead of all the cutting, then grinding, ...

Wierd tingling in fingers after grinding and sawing

I just got a wholesale order for hearts like I had in the magnet exchange but larger ones and I have been spending about 2 hrs at the machines and just stopped. My fingers when I tought them lightly to something feel like they are still vibrating. Has anyone else felt this?
