coral bowls
I want to make a couple of small "coral" bowls. The tutorial I found used stainless bowls for shaping. Could I use my ball molds and slump or is there something about the spidery construction of these that wants to drape instead of slump? Of course these are for gifts that I need next week.

Re: Can this be saved - again?
It is out of the kiln and 7/9ths of it is a success. I combined suggestions and first used diamond hand pads to remove devit. Then added a few pulled tree-like things and added them on top of the crack area plus a little foreground frit. Covered it all with a layer of #2 clear frit and fired as advi...

Can this be saved - again?
I was able to save this 17" X 19" piece by filling the crack with appropriate frit and firing very slowly. The piece is now whole but has what I think is devit. Dull haze over most of the surface and some of the elements of the design look as though they are no longer covered with clear fr...

Re: Show Opening Tomorrow
Enjoyed your glass pieces (a fan of mermaid vases!) and your vacation pics. Would love to see your "gem" collection. Perhaps stored in Ball canning jars like a prized marble collection.

I'm not a Warhol fan but I find your salmon to be exceptionally cool. Perhaps tourists want a realistic version but I can see these gracing the walls of a local "watering hole".

Re: non coe rated glass
Bill, The main problem I ran into was color change. Some of those beautiful glasses that are not manufactured for fusing can change color when fired. A mottled glass may lose it's mottles. Some do fine. I enjoyed messing around with that type of glass while getting acquainted with my kiln but very q...

Re: enamels that hold up to fusing temps
Thanks Valerie and Bert. I'll get some Reusche high fire and test to a 1400 first fire plus test as per Bert with my Fusmaster high fire. 1400F is where my initial tests faded. Perhaps too much medium.

enamels that hold up to fusing temps
I want to fire a painted image onto clear glass then include that glass within several other layers to complete a piece with multiple layers of imagery. I took Kari Minnick's class where we did this type of thing but the images were made from powdered frit. My problem has been the fading out of colo...

Re: installation today
Really beautiful colors. I like the way you've used a somewhat sedate shape for each individual piece that allows the shape of the whole piece to change with viewing perspective without seeming too ornate. The shadows also become part of the design. A well thought out beautiful piece!

Re: Finished window project
The completed piece is just beautiful and I,too, appreciate your descriptions of both process and problem solving. Your website is a wonderful catalog of your progress through the fused glass adventure. Thank you so much for sharing. One question. After you fired the translucent white (on the back to...

These are fabulous! I especially love the second one. Having seen some of your work in person I can imagine the extent of detail work included in these. Congrats on excellent work (and new studio).

Re: Patty Gray dams
Thanks Bert. I thought there was something magic about the surface of the mold. Just glass to mold ratio, huh? OK, I'll just use my stainless casting ring and fiber paper as you suggested.

Patty Gray dams
Have any of you used one of Patty Gray's casting dams? Hard to believe you can cast frit or chunks without having to cold work the edges as you do when using steel ring and fiber.

Re: Yellow Striped Pajamas
That is a lovely piece of work. The yellow strips on the edges are effective elements and the base is quite nice. I can't tell if there is really a yellow cast behind the fish. It is much like looking into an aquarium with colors refracted in an interesting way. I look forward to seeing more of your...
