Re: Show Opening Tomorrow
hah! They're actually stored in 5# BE jars, thanks to Brad Walker. I did think I had created a new folder for the new pix, but what the heck. I think that you saw Yosemite and Lake Tahoe.

Show Opening Tomorrow
Excited to be having a show in Tallahassee. A bit stiff and sore from the installation, but it looks splendid. I have uploaded pix of some of the work: http://www.flickr.com/photos/17904568@N04/

Re: BE Olive Green Opal medium frit
if consistency is important to you, you can use soil sifters to sift the frit so that you are using consistent sizes. There is quite a range of sizes within any one BE size - Miriam Difiore gets 5 sizes out of #2 frit. Sift away!

Re: Metal for creating my own stands
I would recommend checking out Paul Tarlow's e-book on stands (see www.fusedglass.org). It has lots of very straighforward information on doing what you propose. It is pretty cheap.

Re: Vitrograph Cane
if you use the hollow cane, you will get air bubbles and the cane looks irregular - straight then blobby, straight then blobby. I agree with Cyn; the tighter I pack my pot, the less hollow stringer I get. I get hollow stuff only at the very end.

Re: Gluing Transparent coloured glass to white board?
If it would work for the piece, put it back in the kiln on a bed of white powder (08). Or fuse a sheet of white to the back. This is something I run into all the doggone time, and I wish you the best.

Never a good idea to mix food & glass. Too much potential for hazard - chemicals, dirt, slivers of glass....

Re: making frit & powders?
I have not used the product. However, the question has come up many times. It depends on how much frit you need, whether or not it makes sense to make your own. Check the archives about various methods of making frit. You can run a magnet thru it (i use a cow magnet) to collect metal particles.

Re: Cracked :(
Sure you can re-fire it. It's not clear from your description whether it is textured or not. If you re-fire to a full fuse you will lose that. You may want to put a bit of a dam around it the next time so it doesn't spread out - which sometimes cracked glass likes to do. If you do this you will not ...

Re: Spoon Rests
From what I know about having things jet-cut (which is from others) it's all about volume. Ask them how they need the file (jpg, tiff, etc.) and have them maximize the space - fill it with paw prints!!! Have them do as many sheets at once as you can afford. One question I would ask others on this bo...

Re: glass splits while draping
What I really want is a camera inside the kiln. I want to take pix every 10 mins and pinpoint the problem. I hate lifting the lid that much and the break is sometimes on the back side so I wouldn't likely see it anyway. The problem with any schedule is that it's fine...until it isn't. Unless the fir...

Re: glass splits while draping
I should know better than to try to recall my firing schedule without checking it which is what I did. 80% of the time, this schedule is perfect. I have made 100s of these vases. (no joke there). The reason for the pause with the schedule the same is just to let the glass catch up - with the uneven ...

Re: glass splits while draping
I would have to measure on how close to elements. 4-6 inches I would think. I keep getting farther from the elements but of course I am limited... Tell me more about the kiln furniture idea. these are well annealed. 120 mins. @ 960, 120 @ 720. Floral former is about 5 inches at the top. Lots of unsu...

There is a ton of stuff in the archives. I use a lot of hang your glass stand-offs but am moving to L hooks (sold by bullseye).

glass splits while draping
OK, this doesn't happen all the time but when it does, it's inevitably on an expensive (big) piece. 20x20 4 mm glass, edge bordered with pre-fused gems and frit. ss floral former extremely conservative schedule (which I have learned the hard way): 50 dph to 500, :20 50 dph to 1000 :20 75 dph to 1190...

show us the break. That will help with diagnosis. Also the annealing schedule, as Judd said, is critical. How hot, how long, etc.
