go see Marty
Give Marty a ring at cdvkilns.com. He helped me order a custom Jen Ken and will spend a lot of time with you to also help identify the best kiln for your application and environment. He even managed to talk me out of a more expensive Genesis kiln which I had my heart set on, so I would guess he is t...

I normally disagree with Dennis on other boards, but he has good business sense. Do not confuse perfectionism with producing garbage. But, just how perfect does something have to be. Study your house, car, or any other piece of equipment and you will find flaws. Every item has a tolerance and you ju...

It may not mean as much now or may seem more like retribution. If you had a bad experience, you should have commented at the end of the class and let the director of the program know your sentiments. Also, contact your other classmates and all of you comment.

16inch+ flat wheel grinder
What are a list of good manufacturers for 16"+ flat wheel grinders? I looked at one by Glastar at 20" for 4100 and that seems a bit high. Anyone else have a brand they have used?

artists contacted
Just to update if anyone else is interested: I contacted Andrew Brott and William Zweifel and neither are open to classes or one on one instruction at this moment. Andrew may be open to teaching classes at the earliest two quarters from now. I am going to speak to Roy at Delphi to see if that is a p...

wanting to learn glass weaving
I searched through the archives for "glass weaving" looking to match all term and was only able to find 3 threads. I quickly browsed through all of them, but did not find any links or relative information on how to acomplish this. Does anyone offer a glass, book, or web link that can give ...

Is it normal for kiln bricks to crack, nothing large, just small fissures that run for a few inches?

First time firing a new kiln
I have read through the manual and didn't see any notices about first time usage. Do you need to do anything special to a 'large' kiln(Jen Ken Oval) kiln for the first time or just fire it up and test the temperature?

Thanks for all the replies. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a mound that is level and I could bring the kiln close to waist height.

Uneven kiln and how to fix
I just installed a new kiln in the rear of my workshop and noticed that it is on a slight incline. The floor slopes towards a drainage area. This is the only area the kiln will fit, so moving it is not an option. The kiln has somewhere between a 2.5 to 3 degree incline. What are my best options to h...

Try using the Morton M80 or starting your run from both edges and meet in the middle. I personally use the Silberschnitt running pliers which allow you to rotate them so you can start at the middle.

ideas to move SG to warm glass
I currently make greenhouses out of traditional stained glass. I would like to try transfering some of the patterns over to warm glass. I have no idea how to begin researching how to join edges or make building in a kiln. Had anyone ever tried to fuse a 90 degree angle? Would I be better off trying ...

advice on first kiln
When I bought my first large kiln I just called Marty at Centre DeVerre. Over the course of 2 days I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with him discussing brands, type of kiln, and just shooting the breeze. 120 does not mean you are getting a weaker kiln. If I am correct, it may take a bit longer to...
