Re: I didn't mean this to be offensive to myself or anybody

This piece is made from 104 COE recycled art glass and was made to show compatability of our recycled glass into itself. I would like to see more people using recycled materials in art. Like it or not Art is Art I think if you asked us, the persons on this board would tell you that we recycle our m...

Yo, I never crash cool. Besides being hard on you, there is plenty in the archives that suggests it is hard on your kiln. Just cool afap to the next process temperature. If you work with small jewelry pieces I recommend a lot of tests in your kiln to determine what temp to go to. You will find that ...

Lisa, I think Bob Leatherbarrow used to do anneal soaks at both temps and has stopped doing that since having conversations at Bullseye (if I remember correctly). Ask him about it. Bob??? My heartfelt condeolences. I hate it when I can't figure out what is going wrong. Unfortunately I have no clues ...

You can try flip and fire having fired on thinfire in the first fuse. Typically that's enough for me, but sometimes I still need to sandblast.

Melissa, I just have to say this: I remember when parties would stop, that first season of SNL so we could watch it. Amazing that we still have it. Some great seasons, some poor seasons, but what are we up to now? 28 seasons? just a slight aside (OT- sorry y'all) from the mixed up brain of Barbara M...

Hmmm .....hosing down the house. I always thought that homes, especially for people raising young children are designed wrong. When my kids were little the design I always wanted for the eating area was a concrete floor with a slight slope to it. I would have a wood picnic table with the plates nai...

Jaye speed of firing depends on so many factors. The size and thickness of your piece, whether or not it is flat or textured, even your colors. If you are looking for help with a schedule we need more information.

Hey Deb. There is tons of info about sinks both in the old and new archives. Do a search on sinks. While 3mm is probably too thin, you probably don't have to go as thick as 12mm -- but you could. Just remember when fusing that glass wants to be 6mm thick so you will have to dam the piece. BE has inf...

Deena you can always dam a piece. It isn't surprising that it flowed, glass wants to be 1/4 inch thick. Dam with fiberpaper and cut up kiln shelves. Check out Vitrum Studios for great classes in the DC area (okay so they aren't in VA, but they are close enough...). http://www.vitrumstudio.com Barbara

Lori, I would recommend trying to do the slump at a lower temperature for a longer time. You didn't say whether you used BE or System 96 glass, did you? I slump BE lower than most folks, at about 1100 or 1150 depending on the glass with a long soak of say 30-45 minutes. I often do a shorter soak at ...

That's probably it then... I have found with the flip and fire technique that it's easy to have scummed up the glass. So then I just blast and go.... Or avoid the problem by firing on thinfire which works fine if the piece isn't too big. The other day I got the creeping cracks from torn thinfire so ...

If the edges of the crak are smooth, then you cracked while heating up. With all the layers and varying levels of glass you probably need to heat up more slowly than the Spectrum schedule suggests. Another possibility could be incompatibility of some of your glass. Is it all system 96 glass? Any cha...

Every child is an artist, the problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. --Pablo Picasso I read somewhere that every child decides at a certain age (I forget the age but pre-teen I think) that they can or cannot draw (ie be an artist) and if they decide they cannot/are not, they stop tryi...

If you read this board very much, you have probably seen that all of us...
