Lisa, I have to say, I love what you do with your pattern bars. Kudos.

kiln is cursed
Okay, this is a HUGE bid for sympathy. In the last three weeks I have had four pieces blow up in the kiln on the ramp up. Never ever ever happened to me before (except that one time months ago I was firing on a wet shelf. I jinxed myself after the first time when I said it was a good thing I hadn't ...

If you have elements all in the center of the circle, sandwiched between two layers then a slow soak at 1250 will cause the outside edges to slup down and seal in the air, unless you allow it a place to escape. That can be done using Brock's chad method. Place a small piece of glass, previously full...

Re: Sharing
I recently took a bracelet class and during it, I asked the "teacher" how fast she would ramp up in a larger kiln. Her reply was " for that you'll have to take my fusing class" Well....... after already paying almost $200 for this damn class, I can tell you I was *less* than amu...

During the rinse cycle. And if you haven't already switched to liquid detergent, I concur with Bert. Between liquid detergent and a vinegar-y rinse, you should see a difference. good luck Brian. p.s. since the piece you can't sell is probably headed for the trash heap... if you wish, I can take it o...

Marilyn, the film you are getting is something I sometimes get when fusing a layer of frit. It is probably a little devitrification(sometimes referred to here on the board as devit). You can look in the archives to read about how people handle devitrification, usually by firing a spray over the glas...

silicon grit question
when buying silicon grit that's for example 600 grit, is the non-graded 600 grit and higher (i.e. smaller), while the graded is 600 only?

I have other things waiting to be fired. This has put me behind. I'm gonna have to get a larger kiln. Just when I think or better yet, tell my husband that I have everything I need and won't be buying anything else, the glass just keeps sucking me right back in. Guess I'll never have enough toys. ....

I am a fan of frit over seams. Me too. well actually powder. and then I spread it all over everything because it tends to throw in just a hint of variation in color depth that makes things seem a lot less crayolaish and a lot more organic looking. And there's something about organic that moves me.....

godaddy.com When we did the research, they were the least expensive company with excellent reviews. I have never had a server down, their service is excellent and for $9.95, I have more bandwidth than I can use! There were cheaper servers out there for @ $5 a month, but they all had bad reviews. Bar...

Firing some tiles in my kiln last night. All have been fired together twice before. They are composed of a tile in the middle, cut from some patterend glass and framed in black. BE glass. size 6x6 inches square. This was the flip and fuse, final fuse. 3/8 inch thick. Had been previously annealed wit...

Sarah, at 900 degrees F you won't get a tack fuse. That happens at a higher temp than the slump. Check some of your glass manufacturers temps for your glass, and adjust them to the way your kiln fires. If this were my project I would be doing the full fuse around 1430, then doing the tack fuse aroun...

Jackie, if what you like when firing face down is the crispness of the lines, flipping it shouldn't change that. I often do that. But, I have on occassion gotten clouding in a transparent surface when I did that. Don't know what that would do to an opal surface. It is such a can of worms we open whe...
