Drop out

Long story short. I have a piece that only dropped 3 of the 7in. My question is, can I start a new drop schedule with the glass being different thicknesses without it cracking?

Re: Brown spots

All my firings for the last 8 years have been on thinfire. Never on a treated shelf. I have used a lot of turquoise, but always on thinfire. Ill retreat the shelves and see what happens. Thanks.

Re: Brown spots

Ran another piece on the new Thinfire and got more streaks. Having never used any silver or foil it’s gotta be the Thinfire? Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Brown spots

These brown spots appeared on the shelf side of the piece fired on Thinfire at 300dph to 1500 no hold afap to 900 hold 60m 100dph to 700 no hold afap to roomtemp. As you can see they didn’t appear on the teal and the turquoise colors. Is there such a thing as bad Thinfire? I just started using a new...

Re: Drop out mystery

Follow up. Slowed the heatup to 100dph. Same thing happened. I now know Brad was correct in that the top elements were too close. The delamination was always on the bottom of the slab. Dropping the shelf solved the problem.

Re: New work

The base is not attached. I want to give the owner the ability to change the angle and rotation of the piece if its static. The best way to display this kind of piece is on a mirrored rotating stand.

Re: Drop out mystery

Brad, my kiln has a separate control for the lid elements. For slumps I have it on low. Do you know if you Can you evenly heat a piece with just the side elements? My shelf is 5 in from the lid.

Re: Drop out mystery

Slump was 300dph to 1250, hold till desired depth is reached afap to 900 hold for 1.50 hours 100 to 700 no hold afap to room temp. Ive had 2 successful drops using this schedule for a 5/8 in thick slab.

Re: Drop out mystery

Brad, full schedule for the piece or slump? The site won’t accept my iphone or ipad photos. I could send you one if your address accepts my photos.
