Re: Researching large kilns

I am buying it on behalf of someone else who, turns out, only wants a new kiln from a reputable manufacturer. he has no interest in building one, but I appreciate the response you provided.

Re: Fiber Kilns- scheduling

No way will I try that. After 25 years, I have learned.. not too fast up and very slow down. I am purchasing this kiln for a class I will teach out of state. It is being shipped there. So, I wont have time for a learning curve on it. Will arrive there to teach, and hopefully the kiln and I will like...

Fiber Kilns- scheduling

Hi All- So I am looking at perhaps perchasing the jenken Profusion 52" Fiber top kiln. (cant find new large brick kilns!) I am concerned about the learning curve on the heating up and annealing schedules with fiber. I understand that more kilns are now made with fiber vs. brick. What is your ex...

Re: Researching large kilns

I am looking for information about manufacturers of large kilns. I am leaning away from the fiber kilns, since I want more control over annealing stages, and they cool down too fast.
Do any of you use large kilns that you can recommend?

Researching large kilns

Hi All,

looking to find a large kiln for a workshop that I will teach. Anything 40" + in length would be great. Recommendations anyone?
Thank you.

Re: oceanside QC

just to clarify, I do occasionally see tiny bubbles in the glass prior to fusing, but they do not present a problem.

Re: oceanside QC

Hi Bob,
I have been using Spectrum, and now Oceanside for a total of 20+ years. I do occasionally small bubbles, but it dos not affect the quality of the end product in my case. I do not see a difference in my fusing since working with Oceanside.

Denver Kilns?

A friend has an opportunity to buy a used 72" Denver clamshell kiln. In reading past threads here, I saw several unfavorable comments about them (i.e.sagging blanket).. Has anyone had good experiences with them? And I realize they are out of business, which could be problematic if the kiln has ...

Anneling kiln for fusing?

Hi All,
I know someone who has a few annealing kilns for use by glass blowers. He wonders if they could also be used for fusing. I am not familiar with annealers.
Can they be also used for fusing?
Thanks!

Re: reflective backing?

Terrific, thanks.
Do you think if I apply an adhesive to that final clear coat( to apply glass to another surface), it will not disturb the coatings?

Hepa safety updates?

Hi Fusers, Wondering what are the latest best ways to deal with thin fire paper clean up in the studio and general glass frit vacuuming. Is a hepa filter on a shop vac sufficient? And is a 3M P100 mask sufficient? Thank you.

Re: Suction cups

Most of my work- and the challenge is, that I make larger, flat ( with dimension) pieces. So a suction cup that doesn’t necesítate the glass being completely flat would be helpful.
Condolences to you re: Uncle Bob…!

Re: Suction cups

Creative, Marty!
It is for everything..lifting glass out of the kiln, yes, positioning, and lifting out of the molds. I have several suction cups that did not perform.
Well, duct tape might do it!
