I'm looking for info

I swore I’d never do bottles again, but I have an order for 15 cases of wine bottles to slump and shape. I didn’t like doing these things because of the time and mess of removing labels. I thought I remembered a post or tip sheet I read that talked about a solution that was applied with a brush, you...

Re: float glass

Go easy on the sandblasting. If the design is deep and does not have a vent, bubbles can be an issue.

Irid

I have an unusual shaped piece of black 96. It would be really great if it was in irid.
I’ve reading around for an answer for what I want to do, but have found nothing.
Is there a glass paint that would simulate the irid coating?

Re: Clamshell vs not. Any major Pros or Cons?

My next one will be either a clamshell or a bell kiln. I like the idea of loading or building a project right on the base and not have to be concerned about setting it down inside and worry about the elements shifting. Currently I have two JenKin, an old Paragon that is a workhorse and a GF 15. I kn...

Re: Annealing for float glass

Thanks Bert, Made me go back and do math again. Had to determine how long .6 hours is :-k I'm starting this one tonight and plan on 100 f to heat up to slump at 1200 f. Mine will slump starting around 1000 and might be even quicker do to the glass weight and overhang of mold. Catch up with you later...

Annealing for float glass

I have misplaced my schedule book. ( Could be old age) Looking at Grahams book it appears to start annealing at 1040 f and end at strain point 940f. I'm using .250 float. I'm not comfortable with these numbers as I thought I remembered a strain around 800. Will someone please check there number for ...

Re: Cutting glass with a dremel diamond disk

I got all kinds of experience and it only cost me a box of doughnuts for as much scrap window glass as I could ever need. The mistakes don't cost anywhere near as much as mistakes with dicro. Check out your local framing shop or window repair and tell them you would like to have some scraps. I now p...

Re: Calculate weight

Bert I was wondering about how much soil weight I can put in this and still be safe

I'm looking at potting soil adds now to see how much a cubic foot it weighs.
Thanks

Calculate weight

Need Info:
I have another order for an oversized vase. Dimn are 36”long x 8”wide x 6”deep.
That is going to hold about 1 cubic foot of planting mix.
Currently I’m hoping to make this out of 6 mm float and I’m trying to see if the 6mm glass is thick enough to hold this weight.

Any thoughts??
Thanks

Re: Diamond Sphere Drill Bits

I haven't tried the spheres, but I use the hollow shaft ones and get decent results. I leave the drill in the drill press and take a small allen wrench that fits in the hollow shaft and simply push out the plug after each hole. I drill my holes with the glass under water which keeps it cool and hole...

Re: Fiberboard molds

Fiberboard makes a fine drape mold. Are you concerned about adjusting the ramp up? Your regular schedule for slumping float should work the same. The board insulates but it will be on the bottom. Thanks Marian, I've never fired over a mold this thick and was wondering before I did it. The only othe...

Fiberboard molds

I have a customer that wants a long, shallow, and rectangular plant vase. It needs to be about 42 inches long and no wider than 8 inches in width for the base. I have plenty of kiln room for this and I will be using 3/16 ths float glass. My stumbling block is in making a support for this vase with n...

Re: Blaster Question

Jim, Currently I have two of the HF pots that look like propane bottles. I agree that the threads do wear but my main problem has always been moisture and clumping in the bottom of the pot. I have a moisture trap on the compressor outlet and another mounted on the pot right where the compressor hose...

Re: Kiln Shelf Material

You can use a fiber board on the floor of your kiln if you like. Those heavy boards will cost you more money to heat up and more time to cool down. And they will thermal shock on a fast heatup. Get a new fiber board. Unifrax makes an HD board 24"x 48". I line by big kiln with Unifrax 1/4&...

Kiln Shelf Material

I need a replacement shelf for my GF8. It’s 22 x 46 inches. Currently I have been using a fiberboard shelf that has now seen better days. I’ve been looking at Corelight or Dyson (now made by Euclid) and worry about the cracking due to unbalanced heat loads. Fiberboard is too flexible without a lot o...
