Re: deep texturing in sanblasting ?
Mike, the glue-chip method is probably overkill if you're trying to replicate the narrow flower stems and other decorative elements in the photos you posted. If you want to texture larger areas such as those in the link Tony posted you'll find the chipping will create definite patterns which would b...

Re: How to polish a tiny spot
Don, could you paint something (a fig leaf?) over the offending spot and then refire?
Your artwork is usually very organic so modifying the design slightly might be a lot less arduous than trying to get back to shiny clear glass.

Re: deep texturing in sanblasting ?
Mike, this looks as though the textured part has been achieved by ‘masking’ with a mottled application of adhesive that will dry hard, such as Elmer’s glue, or woodworker’s glue. Leave some areas unmasked in a random way so the sand carving will be ’lumpy’. When a shallow carve has been achieved sto...

My favourite of the 2017 bowls, to date. Looks like being a great year! Congrats. Love the colour, too. Jen

Re: Slumping 2 mil glass
Thanks again, Kevin. I’m resigned to doing this more than once but given our current temp of 30℃ + + would like to limit the number of trials. (Think ‘Cat in a Hot Tin Shed’, and add a hot kiln.) It’s even too hot in there for Monty (the python). As a fallback option I have found a company in Oz tha...

Re: Slumping 2 mil glass
Kevin and James, thank you for the comments….but dumpster diving.…..(helpful charity workers waiting to help one out and handing over food vouchers?) nah! I’ll buy glass. The frame is too shallow for 3 mil. The original glass and frame is about 65-70 yrs old and the frame is small and delicate so th...

Re: Slumping 2 mil glass
Thank you for that, Kevin. The glass from the framer's shop was not going to be free! The supplier I have an account with doesn't carry 2 mil and I don't want to minimum-amount special order it. I did, however, buy a couple of cheap pictures from an Op shop and took the glass out. It’s not ‘old’ gla...

Slumping 2 mil glass
So, I have been asked by a friend if I could form a piece of picture glass (2 mil) to replace a broken semi-antique piece. It's quite small, approx. 6 x 8 inches. The edges where they slip under the picture frame would be, of course, flat for about 1/4". The glass would then rise in a gentle cu...

Re: Too much chipping
Somewhere, on one of the threads about saw blades, is a post recommending using two smaller, used (or new, I suppose) saw blades as stiffeners.....cheap and possibly free. Haven't tried it but it sounds reasonable. Jen

Good news for us.....is it good news for the locals around the new plant? Screen Shot 2016-09-23 at 11.53.20 AM.png Does Mexico have the same environmental standards as Washington? Under the NAFTA will Mexico be able to object if emissions from the operation will only conform to the twenty-year old ...

As already mentioned privately, the totems (?) are incredibly complex, really love the bowl and can brag that I'm the happy owner (keeper?) of a platypus. Agree with Kevin, make sure you charge appropriately. Jen
