Re: Fish of a different color?
Beautiful. I especially like the top grouping due to the waterlike "flowing" edges and rock bottom crackle.

Re: New technique Seaturtle
Thank you Don. I know there will be a Kenneth Leap class in the future as I found using the paint more to my liking than the frit "paintings" I have made in the past, probably because I enjoy having the sunlight play through the pieces. Maybe it answers the question Jeremy Lepisto posed to...

New technique Seaturtle
I have been in awe of Don and Ralpheals' glass painting images on Warm Glass for years and finally took a class combining painting with fusing.

Element placement and firing results
I just purchased a Caldera to have a travel kiln. Realizing it probably takes a few experimental runs, will there be much difference in firing from a Fusion 16 with a top/lid element, vs the side elements in this small kiln? I plan to fuse 6x6 tiles.

Re: Drilling Vermiculite board to make beads
Morganica, About the vermiculite board! I have the bead attempt (using thinfire to line the bead holes in the board) in the kiln now and it smells pretty bad. In fact, my eyes are burning being in the studio. Is this common for vermiculite burnoff? I think, reading your responses to my questions, th...

Drilling Vermiculite board to make beads
I am in the process of drilling holes in vermiculite board to make glass beads from scrap and frit. The board is much softer than I anticipated and I am not obtaining a "clean" drill hole. Is this to be expected or do I have to do something to the board before using it?

Re: casting in a paragon caldera
Morganica, I have been containing the sand/kaolin in the Fusion 16. Reading your reply, if I do this in a Caldera there will not be much space at all (I began fusing with frustration in an Evenheat Studio Box due to the element placement) and probably not worth it. I will have to find one to try as ...

casting in a paragon caldera
I have been having fun casting small pieces in a Fusion 16 kiln using sand and kaolin clay--small pieces to use in jewelry. Due to the necessity of downsizing and needing portability of equipment I would like to know if it is possible to cast in a small Paragon Caldera kiln with the elements surroun...

Re: Casting bronze with glass
I am interested in this as well--not using metal clay but casting metal around a glass cab or glass piece. Is this possible? Due to melting points, I think yes and plan to take some glass cabs to a fun casting class I am taking in a few weeks. However, google search did not turn up a satisfactory an...

kilnwashing stainless steel floral formers
I searched "kilnwash stainless steel" and did not find the information I am seeking however, I did discover that I should not have purchased ceramic floral formers.... Never really was interested in making these but have a request and realize they sell out at the local glass store! If I do...

Re: Ritsue Mishima in Architectural Digest
Thank you for the enlightenment. The "hotdogs" said quite a bit. Maybe it is the writer of the Architectural Digest article that has me mesmerized: "Blisters erupt across the surface of a squat vase, scattering the sun's rays like a handful of buckshot". I purchased the magazine ...

Ritsue Mishima in Architectural Digest
I am having a difficult time appreciating how Mishima has "taught them to dare, to risk-to take glass to the extreme" as referring to Venetien glassblowers who create her work. The descriptions of the pieces mesmerized me more than the glass, both in this article and on the web when I goog...

What grit do you use in tumbler to obtain "seaglass" finish?
I just handled some lovely bottle glass that was cut and put in a tumbler to obtain a seaglass finish. I think the individual representing the glass (not the producer) stated that it was put in a tumbler with 1200 grit to obtain the seaglass like finish. Does anyone know if this is realistic? I have...

Re: making consistant small oval cabs
Brock,
I was trying to find a quicker way! Thanks--I used to cut small circles for the cabs until I realized the staggered stack and fire method, but will cut shapes for the next batch.
The pieces I am firing are 4-6 layers thick.

making consistant small oval cabs
Without using a mold, how can I obtain consistant almond sized oval/ovoid shapes? I have tried stacking small rectangles but get rounded corner rectangles as a result. No problem obtaining round cabs with the spiral stack method but the oval shapes have been hit or miss--mainly miss.

Re: Time to purchase small wet belt sander - need your input
Where does an angle grinder come into play? I saw one described for use in coldworking on "Glasscampus.com". The picture with the text was of a MK machine with a water supply hose attatched and the statement that it could be used on flat surfaces.....??
