Ah-h Kathie.... you haven't tried bead making yet. I have had the most unbelievable change in my life, at age 64 getting on a torch. I still teach glass art after almost 30 years, but the direction that bead making is taking, delights me, as I think I can actually retire. I have a nice size studio, ...

glad to see the enthusiasm... All you need is a good print of what ever it is you want copied. Ask for the heaviest vinyl. Then ask for either the positive or negative. (They did both for us). It's cut perfectly, and easy to handle on productive paper.... Lay that on your glass surface, and smooth d...

No, Roseanne, I'm using a cone sitter. This kiln is probably 30 years old. Because it is so thickly insulated, it reduces beautifully. It has three dials... I begin the firing by turning one on to the medium position for the first hour. Then put all three on to high. When the cone collapses, I turn ...

Sandblasting - FAST SIGNS for stencil cuts
Last May there was a big discussion on stencil cutting resists for sandblasting.. dichroic glass in particular. I wrote in recommending having you work die cut from a FAST SIGNS, or any commercial sign makers (they use vinyl lettering). We just finished a beautiful job, with 1/16" fine detail. ...

We have been using a ceramic kiln in my classroom for years. They were the first ones that we had access to until our updated fusing one. Karen's instruction were excellent.. But I use cone 013 for a full fuse. I noticed that no one mentioned the cone size. Theres a vast difference between the small...

Joseph.... It's been years since I've printed on glass, so will look up old notes. But the most important factor is that the screen has to be built up from the surface of the glass, so that the screen can snap away immediately... (since it doesn't have texture like paper, it will smear the image) I ...

Karen.. I fired in a simple kiln for years. There are two sizes of cones, so make sure that you're using the smaller ones. I found that 013 are perfect for fusing, and 015 for slumping. I turn one burner on for several hours in a medium position. You want to keep it under 500° for at least an hour....

Thank you Cynthia, Steve and Bill.... This has been great. I checked the shelf and it was level with one of the burners, so I will put it on higher posts..... I have some bead blankets that I will cut into strips and place them around the perimeter of the bowl. Bill, great idea of the frit around th...

Cynthia.... I think you're on to something, as there are more burners on the sides than a kiln that I use at the College where I teach...... I noticed that the bubbles appear in relatively the same places. I have extra bricks that I use for making thick blocks of glass. Are you suggesting that I pla...

Large bubble on my 20" diameter piece
'Trying to fire a large plate, at least 20" across, two layers of clear, plus decoration... I called Bullseye, and got another firing schedule, that goes up 300° an hour to 1250, then up to 1500°.. Annealing 3 hours, and reducing 60° an hour to 700°... I'm using five coats of Bullseye kiln ...
