Terry,
Is laquer thinner the same as paint thinner? Would you try your techinque with a large piece if you had a big enough pan?

Thanks Geri, Charlie.

I'll go with the firing technique and see how it works. The mirror glass is history, anyway, since it's what cracked. I'm just trying to salvage the frame I made.

The company says the solvent is acetone, but it doesn't dissolve it, just soften it. Doesn't acetone dull glass? anyone know?

Geri- That sounds good. Any discoloration to the fused mirror frame? Also, you prefer burning off, which I think will be what I would do. But what would a solvent be and does the solvent hurt the glass? I have a call into the company that makes E-6000, so that may give me additional info. Thanks for...

E-6000 glue trouble for 1st time

Hello Glassies, I have been happily using E6000 silicon glue for ages and nary a trouble. Then the other day, for the first time, a gallery called me and told me that the mirror which is glued to my fused glass frame developed a small crack. I thought it was a fluke- it had happened once yrs ago wit...

Great replies from Kris and Barbara. Thanks to both of you for taking the time. I've been doing a lot of work on tightening up my written material, and these comments are very helpful. Good luck with the mice catching.

Hoping to be a Siamese,
Leslie

Bio and/ or Resume

Hey Folks, When people talk about a bio- and I've seen examples of them, are they considered an alternative to a resume? The bio examples I've seen seem like a little more chatty and less detailed resume. Resumes seem formal and list everything, which I don't get the impression that bios do. Am I ri...

you may be able to repair your bisqued mold with paper clay. Obtain some from Axner (axner.com)- a small sample amount and ask that he send the information sheet with it. dampen your bisqued mold, apply paper clay, dry, and repeat, until you have well filled your crack. sand and refire mold. it some...

Sara, That sounds like good advice, too. I was wondering about the owner buying one for herself at wholesale. I'm not sure how much I mind, since if she has my piece in her home, it will be an on going reminder of me, but if she said it's for her and means to sell it, I suppose the minimum order con...

thanks

Ok, that sounds like good advice from both Kitty and Marty. I'll write one up and give it a whirl. The more I understand what artists do when they make it a profession, the more I understand a client of mine (a doctor) who said she decided to become a doctor when she couldn't make it as an artist! L...

bought one piece

thank-you, Kitty. I guess one of my problems is that I don't have an impressive resume as an artist. Although I have had moderately sucessful studio sales for years, have potted since the 80's and done glass art since99 (seriously only since 2000) I only have the inumerable classes I have taken, som...

gallery bought just 1

was all geared up after hearing Marty's talk at the WG weekend, and immediately applied his principals of pricing. I have two galleries now selling for me on consignment and a "rep"/friend brought 7 pieces to a 3rd gallery for me yesterday. I decided no more consignment if I could avoid it...

Tony, this is the piece that when I saw it at the WG weekend I asked if it was really like the constellation and you said yes. Very impressive. I take it you are a Scorpio? I just got my sandblasted piece out of the kiln. It came out as you said it would- lovely and luminous after a 30 min soak at 1...

This is all quite beyond me- relays, mercury, circuts. However, I really appreciate all the remarks because I will get help figuring it out and use these suggestions as a starting place. Thanks again,

Leslie

Tony S.,
I see you are a neighber, in Ithaca. That sounds like a good idea- to have the timer as a safety. I will ask my electrician to do it as soon as I figure out whats wrong.

Hi Tony, I think my evenheat is a rampmaster #1 since it doesn't say "2" , but says perfect fire. It's still too hot to really explore the damage, but I'll at least have some brick and kiln furniture to clean up. Thanks for the phone number, and thanks also to everyone who has replied. I'm...

electric kiln going berserk

Hello and help! I've been firing my evenheat kiln almost daily for at least a year and is has behaved wonderfully. It has a rampmaster computerized controller. Last night, it was going through it's cycle and on the way down, and I went to bed. Perhaps some of you will stay up all night, but I don't ...

release agent for between plaster

I have a heavily carved plaster mold made from hydrocal. I want to made a reverse mold from it in a plaster /silica mix which can be fired under glass. I am thinking of using mold soap as a release agent. Has anyone done this with sucess? Any one have a better thought? I don't dare damage the origin...

Carl and others, Most recently I stopped by and my work was indeed on display. I do have a written agreement, although the issue of damage is not addressed. As time goes on, I will bring it up, but I need a break from the for me rather emotional process of getting into my first gallery. Dumb, I know...
