Re: Silbertschnitt vs Fletcher-Terry circle cutter - experiences?

I love my Silberschnitt. I joke that every time I use it, I want to kiss a German (my husband is German ;)).

Re: bubbles in 1/8" sheet fusing

How thick of a layer of frit?

I couldn't access the picture, but your problem is likely volume. You're taking a single layer of glass and frying it at 1560. If there is not sufficient frit, when the surface tension of the glass causes it to pool to 1/4" thick, you're going to get holes.

Re: Fused Glass Production Supply Shortages

Thanks, AndyT. I was going to: http://spectrumglass.com/, hitting their WarmGlass link and going to About Us, which gives you a completely different set of info than going to the Stained Glass Link.

Re: Fused Glass Production Supply Shortages

Andy,

Can you provide the link to that? I searched again and I still can't find it on Spectrum's web site. I even googled the term, "Spectrum Glass Company uses an
array of colorants to manufacture our product line" with no results.

Re: Fused Glass Production Supply Shortages

Yes, Spectrum is lying low right now... haven't heard a word about those guys, but I bet they are nervous. I figure it will all shake out. Of course, I use only System 96 (though some is URO), and I'm pretty well stocked. I have to order from Denver, so I place one or two large orders a year that ar...

Re: Lap Grinder Question

Yes, that occurred to me this morning as I was thinking about the exchange. I took the original question to mean working the edges of the disk perpendicular to the wheel. Not flat.

It's my paradigm

Re: Lap Grinder Question

15" of glass is not touching the disk at any one time, right? If so, your glass is a lot more fluid/flexible than mine ;).

I know with my bowls, I can easily work the edge of a 12" bowl on my 8" lap grinder.

Kevin, they are not being cancelled (technically), but production is being suspended. There's a list at the bottom of this article on the colors being suspended: http://www.portlandmercury.com/BlogtownPDX/archives/2016/02/11/bullseye-glass-made-198-million-last-year-pollution-controls-would-have-cos...

Re: Lap Grinder Question

Works great for rounds, since at any one time, not very much of the edge is actually touching the disk.

You'll mar your edges trying to do flat edges larger than the diamond disk, however.

Re: Bullseye Being Investigated by Oregon DEQ

I tend to be less cynical. I saw the email I received from Uro as anticipating that the same questions will be asked of them, and being proactive. What they've said is really no different than what BE has released to date. I don't see their statement as taking any kind of "superior" stance...

Re: Drop Ring: parfait glass

If I understand one of your questions correctly...You can put a blank circle on top of the fused circle, but the effect will be different than if you prefuse the blank to the existing circle first (take a look at Paul Tarlow's ebook on drop vessels -- it's actually a really nice effect and one I nee...

In Fehrenheit:
300/h to 752 – 10 min
390/h to 1150 – 20 min
Full speed to 1436 –10 min
If I am reading this correctly, you are slumping/draping at 1436 deg F? That would be why you have holes and thickness in areas where you don't want it. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something...

Re: FUSING UNDER A PIECE

Partly, it depends upon what you are trying to do. I would assume that firing directly on a kiln shelf would be the most likely to result in bubbles, so consider that when coming up with your firing schedule. Firing on a kiln shelf or thin fire, in addition to texture, would likely "flatten&quo...

Someone recently posted "Can someone tell me why this happened?" with a picture of a piece with a hole in it -- nothing else. I responded with several questions RE: layup, type of mold (if used), firing schedule, etc etc etc. Someone else responded to me that if I would just read the (50 o...
