Re: Stupid question: kiln wash

I use ThinFire or Papyros but never kiln wash my shelves. Heck, if I'm gonna use kiln wash in the first place, why would I waste the paper? Supposedly, the Papyros can be used multiple times, but I haven't so far. The biggest advantage I see is that it cleans up easier than TF (stays in on...

Re: New mold

Hi Barry, I've bought a lot of moulds through Bullseye and some have come with the recommendation to prefire it and some have not . It seems like the simple shape smaller moulds didn't have the recommendation ( I did buy them a long time ago) but the larger more complex shapes have come with the re...

Thanks for the file Al. What a great tool. Re: Schedule help and other questions.

From my experience/with my kiln 1480 is high for a full fuse, unless, like you experienced, you are really wanting to flatten it.

A tid bit that is worth what you paid for it, but I am sooooo glad I finally broke down and bought a sand blaster. :D I love not only knowing what it can do, but knowing it is there when I need it. Re: Solution for devit on irid

Yes, irid side face down, touching the Papyros. I have fired irid side down on fiber paper (no problem, of course), and so I didn't even think about possible interactions. All of my other irid side down work has been fired on kiln washed texture molds or fiber paper, come to think of it. Damn! :twis...

Solution for devit on irid

I would like comments on how to resolve a devit problem I have on a piece. The piece is a strip construction (sys 96)-- 1/4" pieces standing on edge on a full sheet of clear irid, with the irid size down. There is a "smathering" of devit across one whole side. Hopefully, I can post so...

Re: Kiln recommendation?

Personally, I would go with the Paragon Fusion 16, because it is bigger than the Skutt 14 and square rather than round like the Olympic. A round kiln won't hold as much as a square.

Paragon's are nice kilns (I have two Paragons and Skutt -- love all three).

Re: First work done

The two "waves" are a little too symmetrical for me, and I would likely have had the wood grain run horizontally, but I like your idea of combining the wood and the glass and the movement you get from the wood grain and swirl of the glass. Looks like you are having fun -- how are you combi...

Re: Screen Melts

I should have grabbed the stainless steel screen out of the kiln before cooling because when you open the kiln there are shards of glass all over that popped off during cooling, they are not stuck but it is a mess and they get into the elements, then the next time you heat the kiln they will stick....

Re: Pacemaker and kiln

You need to check with your doctor but when you turn off the kiln is when you would have the most disruptive event I would guess. When the kiln is turned on or off is when the magnetic field is created or destroyed and the magnetic waves pass through the area in a big way. When it is on, the magnet...

Re: Screen Melts

So.... I have never done a screen melt. I have a small 6" screen & frame, but have just never gotten the round Tuit to do it. This is the first I have heard about glass popping off and getting all over the kiln. Does it happen every time, or with just certain gauges of screen, or?? Just cur...
