Re: smart kiln cam

I have this problem with one of my controllers, and found that if I have a light shining directly on the readout display, I can easily see the numbers. I hope this works for you.

Re: Some Bones

Thanks, Havi, I have been working and developing this process, and was honored to have my "Bones" group selected as Honorable Mention in Emerge 2018. Since then I've moved on to do some skulls. I'll post some pics in a separate post.

Re: Some Bones

I had a suggestion to show the real bones as well as my PdV version - so I've added these two photos. In each set, the left bone is the real one, and the right is PdV. As you can see, there is some shrinkage because I use powders.

Re: Some Bones

Hi Kevin, thank you for the link. Beautiful and interesting work. BTW, I don't use the wax process, nor am I trying to achieve this type of cast look in my work.

Some Bones

My dog and I were exploring around our local rodeo grounds and I found some bones that are probably from a pronghorn or deer. I couldn't resist trying to make them out of glass - the photos below show my finished bones. I used a Pate de Verre technique that I've been exploring and am very happy with...

Re: Forest Floor #2

thank you, Leonard. My goal for current work is to balance the really thin components with thick/solid pieces, and I'm really happy with how this work out. It's quite a journey.

Re: Forest Floor #2

Thanks, Vernon. The twig is also a modified F&F technique. As for the colors, I've been working on aspen leaves for a few months so I have those pretty well dialed in. The tough part is to get the colors realistic, but still different enough to provide a balanced composition. In real life the ro...

Finally sharing some work

After several years of learning from all of you, I finally feel I have a piece worthy of sharing. Made with BE powders, and hand pulled (BE) virtigraph. I used vitrigel as the binder, but hand shaped before fusing. I did use a small amount of fiber paper to maintain the shape while firing. The finis...

Re: need help deciding on which large kiln

It sounds like you've figured out what you want regarding the kiln. For what it's worth I recently purchased the Pearl 44 and love it. I also got the shelf with it, although at a lower price because I was able to get it wholesale through D&L. I had used the kiln about 4 times, and although I had...

Re: Opinions needed for new kiln

Fiber lids don't shed at all, at least not that I've seen or heard of. Brick won't shed all the time if you keep the lid clean - but when it does it'll be a flake or two in the middle of a piece that is otherwise perfect. I've been there and to me the extra dollars for the fiber lid is a small price...

Re: Opinions needed for new kiln

I highly recommend getting the fiber lid. I bought this kiln and got it with the brick lid, then about 2 yrs later replaces it with the fiber one. A brick lid can shed dust that gets embedded in your glass.

Re: Paragon Fusion 16 for next kiln?

"Not just a dedicated outlet, a dedicated circuit with the right wiring gauge used."

Yes, that is what I meant to say. Thanks for the clarification Kevin.

Re: Paragon Fusion 16 for next kiln?

The Fusion 16 is the kiln I got 3 yrs ago and really like it. I did replace the top with a fiber lid so I'd suggest you just order it with the fiber lid to start. And about the 120 - you need a dedicated outlet, you can't just plug it into your regular socket.
