Re: Multi Color Enameling with Screen Prints
Not an impossible dream, but it's a lot easier to fire between colors.
Just fire the lowest you can fire to set the enamels.

Re: Top temperature for Ferro Sunshine enamels
We fire to just adhere to 1325F.
Note that some colors will not mature to final color at this temperature.
You can also add Mixing Flux to lower the temperature.

Re: Kiln Question
I am finally getting back to fusing after a long break. Is there anything I need to check before I test my kiln ( Glass Glow) after not using it for 10 years? It's got a nice Paragon controller that I don't want to mess up! #-o Put some scrap glass in it. Small pieces, two layers thick, in various ...

Re: Seeking Smallish Kiln for Casting
Yes, it would be easier to load and unload, but it's not that hard to load a top loading kiln. Not sure why Cynthia didn't use the kiln after she had it built. Thicker brick means you hold more heat, which does save energy on long holds during annealing. It would also cool slower, which could be goo...

Re: Seeking Smallish Kiln for Casting
Do you have insights into the tradeoffs of the Top-Hat versions of the Olympics? The Top-Hat kilns are really made for raku or something similar, when you open the kiln during the firing. That's not normal during casting (unless you're adding more glass, which shouldn't be needed it you planned rig...

Re: Seeking Smallish Kiln for Casting
Lots of pottery kilns that would work and they're great for casting. Here's an example: https://www.olympickilns.com/product/1818e/ but Olympic makes many other sizes and they do custom work, also. We cast in this one, a little taller: https://www.olympickilns.com/product/1823he/ For what it's worth...

Re: Fiber Kiln/Shelf
1. How durable are fiber kilns? Have there been improvements in the last 5 years? 2. If the kiln has a fiber floor can I just use a regular kiln shelf for durability? 3. Is there a source for more information on the care and use of a fiber kiln? 4. How would firing schedules change? I imagine the p...

Re: Powder Frit
My first thought was what was causing them. Wonder if you're pulverizing more than Bullseye does. As for getting rid of them, I think I would try rinsing the frit before you separate it into sizes. Alternatively, get a finer mesh screen and try sifting them out. I know that Thompson Enamel will make...

Bullseye's powder is 0.2mm and smaller, which is what goes through an 80 mesh screen.

Phil,
The Glastar sandblaster used to be made by TPTools. Perhaps they can help with parts.

Re: Clear/ smooth 90 COE glass
I suspect the "clear/smooth 90 COE glass" you're referring to is the machine rolled clear that Uroboros used to make. It's true, that's no longer being made. However, you could use the regular Bullseye clear just fine. Even though it's not as smooth, it will do just as good a job of cappin...

Re: Firing glass and pottery together
You'll run into two problems. First, glass and clay almost always have different coefficients of expansion. This means that they will crack when the piece cools. The cracking will usually get worse over time. The second problem is that clay and glass are usually fired to very different temperatures....

Re: Denver kiln relay
The RTC-1000 controller is made by Bartlett. https://www.bartinst.com/
The relay is a pretty easy to find 12v relay. I have them in stock or you can get them from Bartlett, an electrical supply house or any kiln manufacturer that uses Barlett relays (like Olympic).
Around $40 or so.

Re: Modifying a slumping mold
Fiber paper comes in thicknesses from 1/32" to 1/4". You may be thinking of thinfire paper, which is much thinner.
You could also use fiber blanket, which comes in thicknesses from 1/2" to 4".

Re: Float Glass Sourcing/Safety Glass Process Questions
Yes, UV glue doesn't work through opaque glass, but if your glass is transparent it's a very good choice. Loctite makes a UV glue that's cures with sunlight and is easy to find (I bought it at my local Wal-Mart.) If the glass is opaque (you mentioned float, which normally is transparent), then my fi...
