Shame on you all. Why rake this woman, her work and pricing structure across the board? Creative expression is individual, as is perceived value. She doesn't need to live with her conscious . . you do ! Sara While I agree that creative expression is individual I think its this kind of anything goes...

I saw that and was so glad that something in our medium made it in and something great too. By my count, if you don't include casting, there were 6 or 7 pieces out of 100 that were in the kilnworking area. Kind of a low number. Gee if I had only known that all I had to do was get naked and strap pie...

Re: Nice job!

Very nice melt! If you can drill out the bubbles, or sandblast, then refire with a small piece of clear frit at the site of the bubbles, you may be able to minimize their appearance. I found that the back side of the melt can have a very interesting and different appearance also. http://www.clearwa...

S curved breaks are almost always an annealing problem, since the piece did not break completely apart I would be extremely careful on the initial heating since there still may be unrelieved stress in the piece that heat might catalyze.

They look fully fused to me--what effect were you hoping for that you didn't achieve? I always choose longer soaks over higher heat as it gives you more control. Only if I am unable to get what I want after soaking for a longer time do I inch up the temp. I hardly ever go above 1450 and consequently...

Linda--I just checked out your website and you are a very talented bead artist. Beautiful work. I started out making beads and my mother-in-law was so crazy about them. I stopped making them years ago but she still bugs me for them so every once in a while I make some and send them to her just to ke...

You can look in your kiln at any temp above the annealing range. So no problem opening the lid at your top temp. and taking a peek to see if you have the result you want yet. Remember to protect your eyes, use gloves and don't get too close. Once you have reached the annealing range though, no peeki...

Since I learned everything on my own I guess I learned to cut a weird way--but I've been doing it for three years now and never had a problem with cutting so it must not be too bad even if its not technically right. Maybe I'll get the Toro Pistol Grip and teach myself to use it the way you do, so I ...

I'm kind of interested in getting Toyo pistol grip since I've heard great things about them, but my concern is that you can't see what you are cutting. When I cut I bend my knees just a little and watch the line I've drawn on the glass while I'm cutting as I cut from away from me toward me (does tha...

They are supposed to just look like little stylized people (all of the different things are supposed to be sort of like primitive drawings in glass), but I like that you saw aliens, it made me laugh! Thanks!

Yes, Amy, you answered all my questions, but one more. Do you do all the installation yourself, or do you have the help of a guy with power tools? leslie I have this great guy (with lots of power tools) who helps me with frames and installing. He can build/fix pretty much anything and is a graphic ...

Thanks! The divisions in the windows were already there. In a couple of the photographs they look quite dark but that was the result of something the photographer did in taking the pictures. In reality it looks more like they do in the first few pictures of the piece installed--they are white and do...

Commission pictures

Thought I'd post a picture of my latest commission, just installed last week. Four panels, each 2 feet wide by 6 feet tall, all Bullseye glass sheets and rods. The picture below is a studio shot of the entire piece--if you would like to see pictures of the piece installed, or details of the panels, ...

I just had a similar experience last month. I was contacted by a gallery in Chicago asking for a large already existing piece to be in a show. Unfortunately I was pressed for time as the gallery owner had just found my work and the show was starting in a couple weeks and I was in the middle of a big...

Did you use glass repelling bricks for the dams instead of regular bricks by any chance? :) I would have though that it might pull in toward where the glass was thickest but it sounds like it was of even thickness, although at that size do things act differently?? I have no idea so I didn't write wi...

It says a lot about her that she is so threatened--you should take it as a compliment (probably not easy when the email was so rude but you get my drift). If an artist's goal is self expression then it is going to be hard to duplicate work (or if there are similarities to someone else's stuff they w...
