Re: mold additives
Hi all. I have been using a simple plaster, silica mold mix with good results. I have read about additives such as fiberglass mesh for bigger molds, and for more durability. What exactly do you add, and in what quantities. Finally where do you get the stuff? By the way, molds would be used for slum...

About these rocks. Are they being encased? Is COE an issue? Does Quartz expand more than Granite? Are they just being used as a form to create a pedestal? Seems like I've seen something like this as well and had no idea how it was accomplished. Appreciate the help, Jerry granite is mostly quartz. h...

Hi Bert, Like you, I would have assumed that CLR would remove the white deposit. I also would have assumed that the deposit was either reprecipitation of calcium from the marble, or scale from hard water. The least likely possibility is something being dissolved from the river rocks she has added. ...

Re: making patterns bars
I searched the archive and did not find what I was looking for. I want to make some small patterns bars 1x1x4 or smaller, I do not have any old shelves that I can cut up for damns. Can I enclose them in thin fire and wrap with hi-temp wire and fire? Kris yes. they of course won't be square o...

Thank you Charlie for this information. I understand that, if I have a good compressor, pneumatic tools are attractive. What's about vibration? Due to a previous surgery to my hands, I can't use tools like hand drills because of the vibrations. I've always been reluctant with hand tools because of ...

Re: Paradise paints temp
If I fire the paints at 1480, how long max can I hold there and not lose the color. I would like to paint and then full fuse, three layers of glass with the paints on the top layer only. Susan W i don't know, but it will depend upon the color(s) you're using. the red, yellow, and orange (ROY) will ...

Form the different links that were posted, I have noticed that this wet grinder is available in two versions: electric and pneumatic. So, I am going to ask the dummy-tool-challenged question: what would be the advantage of a pneumatic over an electric? Is the pneumatic more secure than the electric...

So if I understand you, I should flip the piece over to slump so that the base layer is now on top. In theory this will allow them to stretch into the form instead of being squeezed into the form. Does that sound right? FYI-In the fuse I let it soak at 1420 for 25min. Thanks for everyones help, I'm...

All I can say is get the largest one you can afford. I wish I would have lisen to the advise here myself. Instead, I have one kiln that I don't use and three that I do. Good luck. Jane get the next size up from the largest one you can afford. you'll wish you had in under 6 months. also, get a squar...

Re: those blasted guns!
Are there any alternatives to the pistol-grip guns that you have to squeeze the trigger? Those just make my hands ACHE after about 30 seconds. I spent several hours sand-blasting yesterday and I swear, I'm about to file for disability!! footswitch i have one on my grinder, and it's saved having to ...

Charlie, this is interesting stuff. it has been poured. Each time you use it you need to use a lambswool buff to clean it off. you can carve it. we sliced one shelf up to make dams and that works fabulous (used the one where the bubbles from the pour damaged the top surface) the one with the light ...

Good point, I can fuse without kilnwash!!! Bad points, so far very very POOR SERVICE and even though I've drilled holes all across the test shelves I still get huge bubbles. It does sound like you may have their newer prototypes. I hope they read this and send me the shelves I ordered :) There is g...
