Re: Re-using 1/8" fiber paper
Thanks Bert. I don't know what type of stuff I have; It's not paper though. It is soft after firing and I thought I would turn a ceramic mold upside down and use this spent paper/blanket to cover the mold. I need this mold for the shape I need for my glass piece. I would like to get it as smooth as ...

Re: Re-using 1/8" fiber paper
Thanks, Charlie. I was actually going to mound it up and fuse something over it.

Re-using 1/8" fiber paper
Does anyone re-use 1/8" fiber paper? I have been saving it for a few years with the thought of using it again. Can I use it dry? Or should I wet it to shape, then dry out before using? Anyone do this?

Re: My favorite person/Show and Tell
Well, it was a wonderful hour with 20 pretty well behaved 6 & 7 year olds. My grandson likes to wear jewelry, so I decided on making necklaces. I made about 30 sets of 6 lampwork beads and had the kids pick their favorite colors. I also had hemp cord ready to string and had made one necklace up ...

Re: wind chimes that don't chime, they clunk
I have been making chimes for about 5 years now, and they all chime pretty well. Most I make with 2 layers, and the pieces are from 1" to 1 3/4" wide and varying lengths of 2" to 8" long. I find the smaller the piece of glass, the less they chime. They sort of click. But I always...

Re: My favorite person/Show and Tell
Thanks Don and Delberta. They are both really great ideas. I think the worst part is trying to fill 45 minutes . I'll let you know how it goes!!!

My favorite person/Show and Tell
My 6 yr old grandson has asked me to give a talk/demo of some glass work at his school. Carter hasn't tried fusing with me yet, but we have made some beads together. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have done anything with children that young? I am going to make a magnet for each of the kids wi...

Re: Organizing and inventory
I built a case system like most of the glass retailers use; slide in bins for 24x24" pieces, sorted into colors. I use mostly Sys 96 so keeping coe's seperate is easy. I bought 4 rolling metal bin things in Walmart. They each have 4 bins that a plastic shoe storage box fit into. So, my bigger s...

Re: 96 Clear formula
I haven't noticed any difference. But I guess there would be a slight tinge if it was a thicker then 1/4" piece.

Re: Craft shows
I think I was the only fused glass artist at New Paltz, and know I was the only person with lampwork beads and jewelry. I have been making some wall art and sculptural pieces, but haven't created a portfolio yet. I have submitted some work to a couple of galleries here in Sullivan County, NY, but wa...

Craft shows
For those of you who participate in fine art and craft shows, what is selling for you? I had a booth at the Woodstock/ New Paltz, NY spring show. It was the first semi-big show I've done. Tons of people, even though the weather wasn't the best. I sold no fused glass bowls/ plates/ platters at all, w...

Re: Small Business - insurance
I'm finding that some craft show venues are requiring artists/crafters carry insurance. A potter friend of mine has it through her home owners insurer, and I think she said it costs her a little over $300 a year. I couldn't participate in 2 really good shows because I don't have insurance. I'm going...

Re: Using a stainless steel ring and scrap clear glass
How would you lay something like up? Wouldn't there be faint lines and shadows all over the blank after it's fired? I've been thinking of something similar with my small mountain of clear.

Re: Slumping small bowls
Thanks, Don and Mike. I will slump them in the smaller kiln next time. Mike, do you know what the Bullseye schedule is? I am having a hard time accessing info on the Bullseye site from my 3g tablet. It kicks me off the site for some reason. I was thinking 400 to 1000 and then 100 to 1250 and watch (...

Slumping small bowls
I'm having an awful time trying to slump into small ceramic bowl molds, from 5 1/2" to 7 1/2" sizes. Is it that the smaller the mold, the longer it takes to slump? They also seem to not slump evenly ( my kiln is level but I didn't think to level the molds ) I have 2 kilns, a 42X27 oval and...

Re: Can't get on Bullseye site
Well, I thought they were talking about frit between 2 sheets of glass. Ugh*#»@. Well, I have the blank in the kiln now with a frit design in between the glass. This Online thing only happens when I am at my studio in upstate NY. Grrr...Well, the worst is that I have to pop bubbles and re-fuse. Cate...

Can't get on Bullseye site
I've been trying to access the Bullseye site from my tablet (no internet access where I am) and the site keeps kicking me off. I wanted to try firing frit between 2 sheets of glass, and I know they have a 'how-to' and firing schedule on their site. Does anyone know if Bullseye has a mobile version? ...

Re: Fern Leaf Fusing
I have been doing this for a few years. I use hairspray and Thompson's enamels along with glass powder. I trace around the blank on the fiber paper and put the coated leaves (let them dry first) directly on the fiber paper. Put them glass up or down. If you are using a couple of layers of enamel/pow...
