Re: Casting Kiln
Why not look at a pottery kiln? They are deeper and do not have roof/lid elements to cause problems. I think the deeper interior volume might be better for casting.

Re: Gallery %
Sounds like Kevin has had some bad experiences! As Marty says consignment can work and has been beneficial for me for the last 15yrs. Mutual trust, respect and timely payment makes for an excellent relationship.

Re: ceramic molds
I coated my moulds once when they were new and never again!... some I've been using 20yrs. never had to recoat. I agree with the last post your top slumping temp should be low enough that melting against mold should not be happening!!

Re: Finished thick piece, but now need layer at bottom
Tiny clear (or in your case white) frit sized chip. Place only 2 or 3 chips at very edge of white so top piece will sag or slump down in middle pushing air outwards before fusing takes place. I sometimes only use one chip at very edge so the top piece sits at slight angle at setup. Slow bubble sqeez...

Re: Finished thick piece, but now need layer at bottom
I would suggest you put the thick piece on top of the white(with chads!!) then proceed with a verrrry slow firing up (perhaps 100F dph) with a 1 hr pause at 1150F and a bubble squeeze of 30F dph from 1150F to 1300F then 300F dph to fuse temp. Also really slow thru anneal zone with long anneal soak o...

Re: Shall I buy a new kiln???
Kilns are such a simple technology...10yrs old isn't really relevant... if the one you have is the right size for your work then I would fix/replace the parts giving you trouble with and continue firing!! Save you $$ for glass. A "bit" of a warp in the lid isn't a concern. However if you'v...

Re: Question on speeding up cooling below 750°F
It depends on what size and thickness your projects are... Small (2"0 pcs) will be forgiving.. but the larger and thicker projects..HURRAY KILLS!!

Bullseye "96" ??
I just filled out a survey sent out by Bullseye regarding "96" glass. Apparently they are interested in expanding into that market if enough interest is shown! This is another positive in the art glass industry after a year of negatives

Is there something else plugged into the same circuit? Maybe a lamp or coffee maker or something somewhere else in the building you haven't considered??

Re: How fast can you ramp COE 90 fine frit?
Unless this frit is on top of a larger sheet of glass go for it. I run small pieces eg: 2" with frit on top up to 1500F in 30 min. then hold for desired results. Your 400F is actually a lot slower. No holds needed, no anneal on the way down.. works fine on jewellery sized pieces

Lack of disclosure could cause a claim to be denied... I don't think Barry's advice is wise!! full disclosure will put your mind at rest.

Re: Homeowners' Insurance
I did notify my home insurance carrier years ago when I got my first kiln (I now have 4). They came and looked at the set-up, took pictures and I never heard another word about it after that. I think it best to keep no secrets form them in this regard to protect your coverage.

UPS leaves parcels on the porch all the time.. they do not even ring the doorbell to let you know something is there. I wonder how much stuff is actually stolen off peoples front porch after the driver has left. They once left a $1000. Bose stereo system on my porch... it sat there for most of one d...

Klause Moje passing
On Sept. 24th Klause Moje passed away at the age of 78 in Australia. He was a major force and influence in the kiln fired glass field. His contribution as an innovator, artist, and educator is well recognized and valued by us all. He will be missed. My sympathy to his family and friends. Don McClennen

Wissmach colours
Anyone know why Wissmach 96 has so few opal colour choices? Mostly greens and blues... don't see any red, orange, purple.. etc. Are they going to add more any time soon Dwindling Spectrum inventories are creating a need!
