I like my artist statement because it has helped me clarify my purposes in creating art, and perhaps I am Narcissistic enough to contemplate my own thought process. I am certainly a new artist. My degree is in Poetry and Writing, and I'm currently suffering as a high school English teacher (ok, I li...

Artist's Statement

At this late a date, I'm not sure who's interested in this thread, but now I have a question. Why should we bother with an artist's statement? Truly, who reads them? The consumer might like to know we have thought out our art, the gallery owner might like to have something in writing, and fellow art...

To answer the stated questions:

1) Why are you doing the work that you do? Although I have had only one formal art class (figure drawing), I have always liked creating things. When I was younger, I started making quilts (hand dying my own fabric, etc). I still enjoy doing that, but it's very time consuming. One day, I wondered wha...

Art and Skill

After reading your posts, I guess my concern is that I don't like people equating my creative ability with hourly wages (skill level, or what ever method of measuring you like). I (we) can do something others can't - we create pretty things that many people like so much they are willing to pay for t...

Very nice

I liked both works, but the colors of Flattery appealed to me. What were the sizes, and what were your methods?

Silly Ethics Question

Ok, being new here, I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death; however, I am curious and have no idea what to search for using the search engine. I had a lady look at my fused glass. I explained that I made it. She misunderstood thinking I did hot glass. When I explained that it was pre-existing ...

Thank you both

Since posting this message, I have met a wrought iron worker. He says he can make me an armature for $75, but as Charlie stated, it would not be fire rated. Guess the light shop is my next best bet. Thanks for the wire wrapping idea Mira.

Chandelier: Pardon me if this question is in the wrong place

I'm creating a chandelier. The glass has been easy (simply bottles cut into long rectangles and fused together), but the metal armature is KILLING me. I tried buying a pre-made chandelier from Lowe's, but their style (colonial) did not go with the glass (abstract). Any suggestions on how to do the m...
