I use them every so often and always have to cut them out after first fuse.

Re: Kiln Ventilating while firing
"Only" the peep hole is not enough.Does not give good circulation of air. STill need the inch opening. Reason for the venting is to allow the organics (which most binders (as in thinfire) and mediums are) to burn off without using up all the oxygen in then kiln. Most red pigments must oxid...

Re: Decals
Sure,
Decals come in high fire and low fire.
Just bring the temperature of your kiln to the level required by the type and turn off the kiln. You are done.
Note" if there is red or gold on the decal, vent(open the kiln lid slightly) it up to 1000°F.

Re: PVA Dry Disc Polishing
Having never tried dry diamond sanding, I will venture an answer. The reason we use water is to cool the diamond. They tend to heat up rapidly. In heating up they would destroy the bond holding them to the surface, thus freeing themselves and no longer being effective. Don't think it would work for ...

Hate to hear that Dana,
I've got my first coming up in June. Promise to keep the yammering to a minimum.
Actually I have to. I have too much filmed to kill time.

Re: Glass Enamel questions
Cant agree with you Mark.
The change in viscosity of Glycerin is pretty significant as you heat it to dry. (if you don't, it takes forever to dry at room temp)
Anyway, when I tested Glycerin, and I tested it well, I found that the "paint" flowed some as it dried.

Judd....why? The group is actually a pretty good group. It is just a victim of its own success and of human nature. You can't moderate a group like this for correct answers. So many people are on this group and they desperately want to give answers. Well, some are right and some are wrong. If you go...

Dana is so right. The signal to noise ratio is ridiculous. Very little information is actually passed around. It's a shame too. I am sure Warren set it up with great intentions. Wish people would filter out the gratuitous "lovelys" etc. that would cut out 95% of the noise. Stephens group i...

Hi Valerie, I had the same question. Seems the embedded wire would cause the glass to stress crack. But that is only theory. As my favorite saying goes. ....reality trumps theory every time. So Jim...any problems? BTW Valerie. Seems as if there are some people who sleep with their computers set to F...

Re: Lowest temperature for mica
The samples are post firing. Below are samples of micas after a second -full fuse-firing. Held color pretty well. Secret is two-fold. First, we have found a supplier for the blues, purples and greens who services uses other than cosmetics. They still have some problems, but survive far better than w...

Re: Lowest temperature for mica
There is no chemical bond between mica and glass. It is strictly a physical bond. The mica sinks into the glass surface (thanks to gravity) and is held in place. Softer glass, better adhesion. There are other variables also. The larger the particle size of the mica, more it sinks in (weight of the p...

Re: Frit on copper clay jewelry
Two things to keep in mind.
1) COE You may have a problem with incompatibility with regular frit. Thompsons enamel that is for copper should overcome that.
2) Reactivity. Copper is a very reactive material and will possibly react with colors. Keep that in mind.
