Re: Kiln Shelf
First of all you don't have to dry the shelf primer between each coat. I usually do about 6 coats all at the same time alternating brushing direction each coat.. then dry (sit out in sun, or sit on top of kiln when your firing something else) Once it is dry run your dry hand over gently to reduce br...

Re: Should I switch to System 96?
"90" Bullseye has been the only reliable constant in the past few years. They support the art glass industry with research, competitions, publications, communication, etc. etc. I think your source is bogus!! The future of "96" is still a crap shoot!

Re: small crack in a fused piece
Consider this a learning moment.. this crack WILL expand and the bowl Will break!.. Reheating, flattening, refusing, then reslumping, carries so many chances for disaster... but what have you got to lose other than time and $.... as for UV glue, it's still damaged goods!

I agree with, and have followed Jim's approach... for over 20 yrs. I think (Ibailey) you are complicating things by turning off and on selected elements for 99% of what we do in kilns.

Re: Firing Top and Sides, etc
You will find that one solution/combination will not fit all the various types of firings! ... eg: full fuse, fuse to stick, slumping, bending, Drop outs..etc. Your going to have to adjust schedules for the results required, as I'm sure we all do. Only time and experience will give you the data you ...

you won't be able to use a 7" blade as a stiffener on your 10" when you cut 2" material!

Re: Tall skinny vases- stability - how to display in gallery
When viewing work in a "Gallery" it is safe to assume your glass art will not be handled by the patrons/viewers. Museum gel is meant to fasten the glass to a pedestal or shelf, not to a temporary base. Prospective purchasers must ask gallery staff for assistance. If this is more a retail s...

The grid like sandpaper used by drywallers will make short work of removing kilnwash.

Re: The load bearing capacity of glass - to bear its own weight
I suggest you drill the holes big enough to allow a metal eyelet be inserted. These can be secured with a proper adhesive. This allows movement of the hanging cables to happen without causing abrasive stress on the raw glass at the hole.. Thicker (1/4") glass will accept 2 eyelets (one from eac...

Leave a little space between shards(1/8")when glueing in place for base glass to fill in during fusing for design.

Unless it's an oil less (more recent designs) one they do have a crankcase that needs to be topped up with oil from time to time. Mine has a small finger sized screw-in plug at the base of the finned casting.

Car window glass use to be 2 thin layers of a glass sandwich with a thin plastic layer in the middle. If this is still the way its made then fusing is not an option..

I think Bills is stressing about the process and looking for something to post for what reason?? Why not just get in your studio and make stuff? As artists we are constantly trying out new experiments, new techniques.. some work, some don't.. move on. With all the bafflegab on the internet I doubt m...

Re: Hanging mirror construction
If you use the J shaped mirror mounting brackets (Home Depot) that will secure the mirror safely to the wall. Then your edge design could easily be silicone to mirror face. (use masking tape for 24hrs to hold design until silicone has cured)... Some relief may have to be ground or cast in back of yo...
