Cutting Vermuculite Board
I have several sheets of 1" thick vermiculite board from which I'd like to make some fusing moulds. I particularly want to be able to fuse a composite of several pieces of glass into a disc or circle. I assume I can make the straight cuts for the outside edges with a chop saw, but how would I c...

Re: 1/16" Fiber Paper
Jennifer, Thermal Ceramics in Oz changed its name to Morgan Thermal Ceramics. I just had a quick look on-line and see that the US branches seem to have done the same. I didn't send a link because I don't know where you're located. The local suppliers have 1 mil x 610 x 40 meters so the US probably ...

1/16" Fiber Paper
I would like to find the smoothest possible fiber paper in 1/16" thickness. I've had some experience with Thermal Ceramics Series 7000 and it's quite smooth. I'd like to buy a roll of it but can't seem to find a supplier here in the US. Does anyone know where I can buy a 48" wide roll of i...

Rick,
If you go to the main Ceramaterials.com website, then click on 'ceramic fiber paper' in the list down the left hand side of the home page, you should see the price page.

1/16 fiber paper
I needed quite a lot of 1/16 fiber paper for several projects I wanted to make. Buying it by the sheet is expensive so I went on-line to look for larger amounts. I found, and ordered, a roll of CeramSource ceramic fiber paper. <http://ceramsource.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Ceramic-Fiber-Paper-Da...

Re: Making channels with fiber paper
it is a volume issue. there is onlyone layer over and under the paper. the glass wants to be 1/4" thick and so pulls in towards the middle leaving spikes. you can fuse at a lower temp to try and avoid this or add some more glass to the problem areas. r. edit. or sand/grind. Thanks Rosanna, I'l...

Re: Making channels with fiber paper
I used both Spectrum 96 and Bullseye - not fused together of course, but I made strips of both and fired them at the same time. I know I can sand the glass after I've fired it, I'd just like to know if there's some way of avoiding the sharp edges in the first place. I can't imagine all those people ...

Making channels with fiber paper
I tried to make some simple glass chimes for a wind chime for my garden. I fused a bunch of two-layer strips of 3mm glass, about 1/2" wide and 6" long together and I put a thin strip of 1/4' fiber paper between them at one end to create a channel through which I can thread a hanging cord. ...

I don't know what size the flakes of SS would be when they're sandblasted off the screen, but wouldn't this contaminate the sandblast medium?lbailey wrote: I do have a SB so might try that next.

Re: Re-phrased Paragon kiln question
I routinely drop 5 1/2" in a 6" deep top loading kiln with side only elements and have dropped 20"+ in a top loading pottery kiln with side only elements. So dropping with side only elements is not an issue. Just go a bit slower than normal. Brad, Just to follow up on your suggestion...

Re: Re-phrased Paragon kiln question
If you just want more height for drop-outs and handkerchief vases, then a front loading kiln will work fine. If, as Bert says, you want to make more complicated pieces or build pieces in the kiln, then a front loader is not the best choice. A clamshell or top loader works best for situations where ...

Re-phrased Paragon kiln question
Over the weekend I asked if anyone had a Paragon front-loading Janus 24 multipurpose kiln but got no answers. Perhaps I should have asked for advice on buying a relatively tall, front loading glass kiln (any brand) instead. I'd like to make some tall handkerchief vases as well as some drop-out vesse...

Paragon kiln question
I'm looking for a relatively tall (taller than my 9" Cone Art top-loading kiln), front-loading glass kiln. I also do pottery so the Paragon Janus24 Multipurpose Glass and Ceramic kiln looks like it might work well. Do any of you have one? If so, what would your advice be? If you prefer other ki...

Wall pocket
I've been trying to make some wall pockets but have been having a problem. For the first one, I used 2 layers of 3 mm opaque for the back and 1 layer of 3 mm clear for the pocket. I slumped this over 2 layers of 1/4" fiber paper. The fiber paper extended beyond the top edge of the pocket before...
