Tact Fuse
I have slumped a piece of glass into a wavy ribbon. I want to tact fuse it to another piece of glass while getting it to fuse to the glass without loosing the shape. Suggestions on a fusing schedule? How fast should I go? (the base piece is 8" x 12" single layer) What should be the target ...

Be warned! Fire retardants that are chemically applied (vs inheriently flame retardants like Nomex) WILL WASH OUT after a very few cleanings! I head the Flame Ratardant Garment team for my company (a really big metals company) and we found that this type of flame retardant will wash out unpredictabl...

Infrared Radiation
I was asked during my class at WGW about infrared radiation eye protection for kiln workers. I originally said that didymium was adequate. Marty Kremer point out that this was incorrect (is there anything this guy does NOT know?), so I did some more research on this topic: The infrared (IR) spectrum...

Sorry about your bad slump - I can identify! What I did was clean the mold with steel wool, reapplied kiln wash, fired to 500 to cure. For the glass, I made sure it was perfectly round, beveled the edge that contacted the mold, and sprinkled some powder that is supposed to make the slump smoother. N...

Couple of things to think about - 1) Hate to tell you this, but your best best is aluminized kevlar or aluminized leather (the silver stuff). It reflects heat better than anything else and molten glass will not stick to it. This is known as primary protective clothing and is designed to prevent burn...

Weird Slump - REVISITED
Had a weird slump a few weeks ago where the bowl was distorted. I flat fused the bowl, recut the piece into a circle, sandblasted (fear of devit) and re-slumped following the GREAT advice from this board (cleaned the mold, reapplied mold release, beveled the edge where it contacted the mold, backed ...

Cutting drain holes in sinks
I've got the chance for a commission to make a sink. I figure that I could make a bowl and some how cut the drain hole. Any ideas? Where can I get a bit large enough? How do I keep it wet during drilling? Thanks in advance1

Totally WEIRD slump
Made a round disk - 3/8" thick and used white, cranberry red, clear and a streaky red/white. Fused flat very nicely, cold worked the edges. During the slump it sort of misshaped (wish I could post a photo!). Instead of being round, it's kind of wavy on the edges. I've had slumps that went down ...
