I have received several requests to return to the old board format.

Please take a moment to register your vote on this topic.

Thanks.

There are several issues with this bill. For starters, it's not as simple as it sounds. There are lots of restrictions, including: work must be created in last 18 months value must be supported by an written appraisal, filed with tax form donation must be to certain non-profit entities, such as muse...

I wonder if you can sell the piece to your spouse and have them donate it?? If you claim the income from the sale, then I suppose your spouse could claim the donation. But what would that accomplish? Regarding the value of the donation, Marty is right. In the US, the IRS only allows artists to dona...

Given the fairly large quantity of newcomer posts we've been having lately, it certainly makes sense to have a newcomer board. That seems straightforward, but I'm not sure how other boards would work (or how to segment things). Anybody have any suggestions?

There are overglazes made for slumping (e.g. Back Fire) that have higher lead content (I believe) and melt at lower temperature. They are intended for smoothing the back of a bowl during slumping. I don't know if they would leave a clear vitreous finish on the top surface. They don't. My experience...

The window is great for the first few years, but eventually goes cloudy and becomes useless. Mine took about five years to go from "best thing since sliced bread" to "just crumbs". I suspect how long the window lasts depends on how much glue and other organic materials you fire.

What's your firing schedule? What do the breaks look like (smooth, sharp, curved or straight, how many pieces)?

Coefficient of expansion is a major consideration for furnace glass workers, too. Most people start with a batch of a known COE and add other chemicals to achieve a final product that works at the desired COE. Mixing unknown scraps together is less common than you would think, and doing it to achiev...

What kind of fiber paper? Assuming we're not talking about thinfire (which never needs to be pre-fired), but are talking about standard fiber paper formulations, then here are the guidelines I would use. If I'm using a small amount, like for a hole in a bead or to line a dam, then I would not prefir...

The idea that we need better teachers isn't a new one -- Lundstrom's first book (which Bullseye wrote) has an appendix on teaching a basic fusing course. And there are lots of other books with projects and tutorials geared toward the beginner. But the problem is a tough one to solve. Consider Brock'...

Brad et al........how do you use your cheapie free glasses as a polaring lense. My understanding is that you put the fused glass in question on the polarizing lense and shine a light thru the lens and then the glass. Right? So do you put on the glasses, lay your glass on the glasses, where is the l...

Dunno how many people actually test with polarizing lenses. I’d be curious to know. It’s simple, it’s cheap; if the project is important, why not? I do. I test when I use non tested compatible stained glass, float, and sometimes Uro with BE. Although I have a few larger sheets of polarized fi...

Thanks to Pete and Lani for saying things better than I could. I'm especially thankful for Pete's efforts in the area of trying to expand the kiln-forming presence within GAS. It will take time, but at least it's moving in the right direction.

Re: Different from BE conference?

Just checking my own sanity. This is different than the Oct. BE conference, right? Details on that? Bullseye is having a conference called BECon in Portland in early August. This conference, which is the first of its type, is for educator. You must apply to participate. More details at this website...

You can find the Mail Merge Wizard under the Tool...

How are nominees chosen? Is there a nominating committee that solicits interested parties far enough in advance for warmglass to have made a selection? Can we have more info so we can think up a good action plan.... for this year as well as future years? Yes, there is a nominating committee ...
