Re: glue

I find that you can not beat Loctite products. their catalog even lists all materials and shows you what glue for what . I use Loctite hysol h30cl. It works great, dries crystal clear and holds a lot of weight.

I know I sound like a broken record, but I still say kiln wash is better. I use BE kiln wash and have never had a sticking or devit problem.

Re: spray kiln shelf

I agree with the haik brush if you do not have a sprayer. One tip for even smoother is that after you have all your coats on, get a bowl of hot water and using the haik brush dip and make one pass over entire shelf. I redip after each pass. removes all the brush marks

Re: Corelite kiln shelf questions

The main reason for an initial firing is to make sure all water is out of these. On the Dysons they retained some water from the extrusion process, so a one time firing is needed to drive out physical and chemical water. much like a bisque firing. Firing is below. Sanding is ok, and the more you scr...

Re: spray kiln shelf

I assume you mean spray on kiln wash. Usually the particles are too big for those sprayers. I use an air sprayer on mine. Why use thin fire at all? Just as easy to scrape and recoat

Re: large kiln firing

You really can not answer this question, without some more info. Especially thickness but is this in a mold, covered with investment, and if so what kind? What type and color of glass. All of this comes into play. It is correct that you may want to hold at 1000 and then go to annealing or just a lon...

Have you tried a small sample, with 2 layers of French vanilla, and then accent pieces and fire a little lower, say 1450?

Re: angle grinder without water supply?

If you are buying a grinder anyway and have the money, buy a wet grinder now, and you will have it for when you do get a water source. I like the Alpha but Bob has stuff to look at on His Glassworks, so check them out.

Re: Leponitt Heavy duty pliers - no plastic - do they work?

I have the toyo heavy duty and they are great. I have the cheaper BE pliers, and it is true that the plastic wears pretty quickly. I used what I use for my tools, and dipped them in the plasti dip and they work great.

Loctite is my go to almost exclusively. Get their catalog and there is an adhesive choice page showing what it bonds to, substrates etc. They carry everything from uv to epoxy, rubber etc.

Re: PVA Dry Disc Polishing

Always better to add even a little water. I have used the peel off pads from CR Laurence that they use for windshields etc. and I suppose if you went super slow it might work, but faster, and more efficient and healthy if you use water. Even when cutting kiln shelves, which can be done dry, it is fa...

Re: finding a diamond grinding wheel

Thanks Tony and Brad. Looking for 4" with 5/8" x 11 threads for angle grinder. Coarse or rough grit. The photos show the idea of the wheel, as I have seen several shapes, but basically like this. My new work uses this as in the other photo.

finding a diamond grinding wheel

HI. I need to find a supply of 4" concave diamond wheel, sometimes called cup wheel for my angle grinder. Also, asking Bob at HIS. I have used at Pilchuck, but all I find are straight profiles. I checked Ebay, granite stores, and online and am having trouble. Anyone know? If not, I will be at P...

thick glass

Hi. Does anyone have a source of thick clear glass? need about 20 pieces about 6" x8" in either 1" or 1.5 inches thick. Can be float. Not cost effective to make, plus I don't want lines from sheet glass.

Thanks

Re: What is in shelf paper?

kiln wash, kiln wash, kiln wash. I am always surprised by the number of people who always use fiber instead of kiln wash. I agree there are times you almost have to, but most of the time you don't. With kiln wash the surface is better, less other problems such as devit, less expense, and less toxic ...

I second the torch. When I disassembled my wet belt, I could not separate the wheels off, and tried everything. Hitting it with a small propane torch did the job

Re: Dichro frit?

The disadvantage with making dichro frit, is that it is only coated on one side, so when you fuse you don't have control of where the dichro is (although it could be an interesting look) CBS coats the frit on all sides, so you always have dichro showing
