Try hisglassworks.com both for a comparison on high-end machines (don't) and on free plans that you can have a local machinist make up (do).

Remember do-bee and don't bee?

You will save on shipping, advertising etc. if you do it locally.

Email me if you want more info.

Brian- it's the Nook-n-Cranny (tm) technology. I'm running into resistance in my continuing encroachment on the living spaces of my wife and child so I am forced to be creative. There's an unused bathtub in the basement- perfect for acid etching. I'm willing to send No.1 son (only child) over to IOW...

700/500 is too hot.

Sandblast or steelwool or emery cloth to give surface a "tooth". Heat to 350F. Spray or brush kilnwash (slightly more diluted if spraying) until wet spots show. Stop and reheat. Repeat spray. Let dry. Slump-n-go (tm).

Hudson Beach (sssshhhhh! trade secrets revealed!) is/are casting hot glass with ladles out of a funace into molds, either steel or graphite.

They're good guys, making nice stuff, with reasonable prices, and you should buy their work!

Kitty- I keep a large covered vat of the stuff and use it constantly. No crystals, some light deposits at the bottom of the vat. I try to keep the acid in the vat by letting the glass drip for a few seconds before going into the rinse tub. I add water to the acid as needed- there is some evaporation...

Geri- I vote for kiln-formed too.

BTW, you could have a neon sign that says "glass" and they'll still ask you what the material is! I have one that says Kremer Glass and I still get the question!

Crafts Report, Glass, American Craft, GAS newsletter, etc. Most (if not all) charge fees, almost all want slides, some have broad categories like "new glass '03" and some are very specific, ie. glass teapots no larger than 35cm made in August of last year by Australian digeridoos working a...

Robin- for the first, cut both the rim and the base to the same diameter.
Re the slump, you will lose diameter as the glass sags into the mold. Is the glass thicker at the bottom? If yes, then you probably slumped too high and/or too long. What temps and how long? Marty

Lordy! The last thing I wanted was to get into the CRAFT/ART thing again!!

I just took offense at the term "crafter", y'know, like "K-Mart shopper".

Anyway, if it sells for more than $300, it's art.

Just a couple of sales from the Guild web site(over 2 or 3 years); almost all sales from the catalogs.

Re famousity: it waned for a while but is now coming back. Details later.

"Crafter"?!?#@$*&(*#&%!

Why does this bother me so much? I just got an email from someone (undoubtedly a nice person who has never pulled whiskers off a cat) who is looking for some crafters to fill a show in December. "Crafters", I shouted! "There are no "Crafters" here!" Actually, I replied ...

Cynthia- I don't know beans about the Sourcebooks- I've never been tempted, and I have heard the same pros and cons as posted above. However, I have been having a great time with the catalogs. I groan when another order comes in but it's been extremely lucrative, and the exposure is wonderfull. Yes,...

Hey Dani- I tried the Museum Store Association in '86 or 7. I had to join the org to do the show (was in MN that year- it moves around). It wasn't great, I have no idea what it's like now. Museum shops in general are looking for stuff they can mark up 3 or more times, ie imports. Occasionally you'll...
