Re: knocking off needles on the cheap

I got quite a few needles on my last plate even though I used a very conservative ramp up at 250° f per hour. Its a slingle layer of 3mm glass with about 1 mm frit. The glass stuck to my fiber paper. Any way, I cant afford to buy any more tools at the moment and I own very little cold working equip...

Re: Diamond Sphere Drill Bits

might be bit quality. i use twofers from aanraku. you might want to do more 'tapping' motions with the bit to clean out swarf. i like to have at least 1/4" water over the top of the glass. i hate drilling holes. r.

Re: Diamond Sphere Drill Bits

I haven't tried the spheres, but I use the hollow shaft ones and get decent results. I leave the drill in the drill press and take a small allen wrench that fits in the hollow shaft and simply push out the plug after each hole. I drill my holes with the glass under water which keeps it cool and hol...

Re: spiky and slightly cloudy ... Help

heat work and ventilation. the more shelves you have in the kiln, the more heatwork the glass will get using the same schedule. ..... the more fiber there is in the kiln the more reason to vent. i vent all firings at least to 1100f. this allows burn out products to get out instead of setteling on th...
