i do the glass scraper too, outdoors and let it fall into the yard. it is just inert minerals. when your yard is 6.3 feet above sea leval (at the high spot) you take your fill where you find it . lol. rosanna

hi barbara, i understand the 'limit' to be the temp that you must not exceed so as not to damage the kiln. the kiln elements are capable of reaching much higher temps. i think that given enough time ungoverned on high, any kiln can do a three mile island. i think that, i do not know that for sure. r...

hi all, did the local dare day show again yesterday. this is a totally un filtered in any way community street fair. even though it rained off and on and we had to quit at 1:30 pm instead of 5pm. the folks that came out were much better buyers than last year. even sold to some folks from california....

the balls go under the wicket. the copper/glass one got bought by a croquet nut last year and is his queen wicket, it is doing fine. this years is a platter in a temperary wooden wicket frame. after the tournament, they can remove the platter as the frame is held together with thumbnuts on bolts. ro...

i had the kiln sitter limit timer switch do that to me while firing at the art center where i teach sometimes. i wrapped a bolt with some wire,mashed the button in with the bolt, wound the wire around the kiln and did a few wraps to tighten. then i stood next to the kiln for the final 45 or so mins ...

i understand colin, what you are calling raw firing is slumping glass on green dry clay. but that is also as far as the clay is concerned, a low bisque fire. rosanna

raw fired huh? i believe you. most clay has a pretty significand shrinkage in the bisque firing. makes sense. rosanna

hi stewart, differences in expansion/contraction are why you slump into clay not over it as a general rule. if the shape is gentle enough and the kiln wash thick enough you can cheat this one somewhat. when are you comming down to the obx this year? rosanna

the only problem i can see using clay would be trapping the numbers and cracking the glass on cool down. i guess you could beval the edges but fiberpaper seems the way to go to me. rosanna
