Re: Advice for Dremel starter set

I upgraded from a dremel with flex shaft to a foredom a couple of years ago and can highly recommend the foredom. Great for drilling, carving and small cold working jobs with the 3M diamond disks, comes with foot pedal control

Re: 104 : cracks and scratches

Hi Mike, what temp did you fuse to? Effetre clear (sheet and rod) generally has a lot of little bubbles and is quite textured, much harder to get clean than S96 or bullseye and some batches are just scummy. I scrub with a green scourer and dishwashing liquid, dry, then wipe down with cheap vodka. I ...

Re: Resize sterling silver ring with fused glass cabochons

to resize measure id of both rings and remove difference. If you remove from the back of the band you can place the ring cab down in a small bowl of water (i use a crucible with steel shot in the bottom to hold the ring steady and enough water to cover the stone) then solder closed. Or Rio sell a ma...

Re: Frit Maker

Haydo, if it's the Glass eater you're looking at from AI, I got one and found it useless, lots of dust, lots of powder and you have to drag a magnet through to get the steel filings out. Pounded forever for very little result. Have gone back to heat / quench / hammer ....

Re: firing bronze or copper clay

Hi Colleen, I fire bronze, copper and silver clay in my kilns (paragon SC and GL 18) with no problems. I have a dedicated shelf for silver as had some discolouration on glass when it sat on the same spot as silver had been fired. For bronze and copper I use a ss bain marie dish with lid and activate...

Re: Kaiser Lee board priming

I'm using 17" KL boards as kiln shelves (expensive, yes, but totally worth it to me, clay shelves to heavy for me to handle) and use primo primer recoating every 2 firings. I just blow off any loose dust and recoat, they get smoother after every coat. Cheers, Fiona

Re: Annealing layers and other idiotic questions?

Thank you all! Lauri - I've never heard this before "As they say: If you have not time to do it right, you must have time to do it two times", I will put it up next to kiln for when I'm tempted to peek :) Cynthia - I know what you mean about the reds, they seem to COE shift in prolonged fi...

Annealing layers and other idiotic questions?

Hello all from the top end of Oz, be kind ... I'm new and stupid! Quick bio, lampworking 7 years, started fusing my scrap rod (104) and doing tiny pot melts in my SC3 and got hooked. I've just got a GL148adtsd and I'm loving it after a few hiccups like, OMG how much does a clay shelf weigh! Have gon...
