Yes! Thank you! I needed a new shelf too. My golden retriever went running though my studio and my shelves were standing on end as I just primed them. Bang! Two fell over and one broke.
I'm curious what they use those 1 3/4" dia. Solid Silicon Carbide Posts for? Kiln posts?
Thanks!

If you place them further apart you can get more than one bubble. I was just testing out the process.

Re: Broke it during blasting
Could I bother you all with a schedule? I should go to "1500" I'm curious why so high, and how long I should keep it there. I will be putting a thin circle of system 96 under it. I have a casting ring big enough however I can't dam it real tight with the ring. So I'll make a circle with th...

Re: Broke it during blasting
Honestly it looks a lot prettier in person. I am embarrassed on a couple levels. I got the calipers out and it's 3-4/16 I had pressed it down to make it thinner as it was originally close to 1/2 thick. One of the SS spacers I was using caught the very edge and I had to cut it off before I started sa...

Broke it during blasting
I have this large (20") organic looking disk that broke during sandblasting. You can see how perfect it fits together. These were all taken after it broke. I know, i have read its easy to tell if you try and fix a break. Is that every time? What if I fused a layer under it? Its 3mm thick right ...

Re: MESH MELT
Havi, I'm very happy to help (finally) so many have helped me! I made a decision when I'm learning on my own to use 96 Coe as is cheaper. That was cherry opal from system 96, 30% and 20% yellow 50 clear. It was a pot melt and I did go to 1700 for 60 min. As for the bowl, it was a drop out mold (donu...

Re: Adding a rim to future bowls
I have a welder friend who made me 10 SS heavy gauge circles and it took him about an hour to do with his equipment. From 7" on up to 17" inch. I really like the defined edge too! I really appreciate the help Laurie. I want to add one to my rod disk as well. I think it will offset the colo...

I'm in no way near accomplished as Cynthia. In fact this was my second melt and I decided to try "slumping deep" for the first time.
I still need to clean up the lip.. I'm still learning. I just wanted to say, there's a lot you can do with melts.- Thu Sep 26, 2013 2:00 am

Re: Adding a rim to future bowls
I would clean up the raked piece till perfect.....lay it on a disk of clear the size of the finished piece then add a rim of the rim color......fire it slow on the heat up. I fire something like that at 100 degrees/hr to 800 and then up..... Patty does have a tutorial on making rims...... Thank you...

Adding a rim to future bowls
Hi, I have my pulley system set up (finally) for my clam shell and I would like to do some raking of glass. I have two designs in mind and I would like to add a rim after I rake the glass. I can't seem to find any notes on doing this. Do you cut two rimes out and what is the best way to set these up...

Re: Sandblasted, cold worked, want to shine it up
Brad,
I really appreciate your concise and clear answer. Thinking about it more I agree that a matte finish would look better.
When its finished it will be the first time I'll post in the photos.
Thanks you!
Sheree

Sandblasted, cold worked, want to shine it up
I searched the board and could not find anything that would come up- there were a couple old threads but they would not show up. I have fused this once- cold-worked the edges and sandblasted both sides. Its 16.5" - largest piece I've ever made. I would like this to be shiny and wonder if it can...

image.jpg Hello everyone, you all are so wonderful! Perry emailed me twice today and I sent him photos. Skutt has really good customer service. I believe you get what you pay for. I had no idea what they cost so 16.00 didn't phase me. This kiln was a gift in dec 2009 - before i even bought any glas...
