Re: Kiln Relays
I believe you will find the click count changing relative to firing schedule and kiln load. More glass requires more kwh to heat up. That could result in fewer clicks with more on time. But then again, if you leave your counter in place, and note when it hits 100,000 you would have a clue how long ...

Re: Kiln Relays
A cycle every 6 seconds would be 10/duty minute, 600/duty hour. My costs per firing are about $1.80, and it's a 7200W kiln. I pay about 10 cents per KWH, so I use about 18 KWH. so that's about .5 duty hours for the complete firing cycle. Hence maybe 300 cycles? Have no idea if that math holds up - ...

Re: Kiln Relays
Relay life span is usually rated by the number of "operations" (on-off cycles) they can withstand before failure. The T92 series relays that came as standard equipment in my Paragon kiln are rated at 200,000 operations. The number of operations is usually a typical life span not a guarante...

Re: Setting up a sandblaster
I'll add a little about water separation. You can buy air filters / water separators to put in the air line ahead of your blast cabinet and they can help a lot but they are really most effective when the air is cool. When air comes out of the compressor it's usually quite hot and it can hold a lot o...

OK, I'll bite. Where do you buy it?Laurie Spray wrote:mR97 is not more expensive when you know where to buy it!!
I seem to go through an awful lot of it and would love a cheaper source.

Re: Background for images.
I read today that Amazon has patented using white for a photo backdrop. Of course, I have no clue if this is actually true or not. You may have to switch to offwhite... I also read that here: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/amazon-patents-technique-seamless-white-background-article-1.18089...

Re: Compressor recommendations?
I'm curious about using compressed air to help separate 2 part molds, and for general use in a kiln-casting studio. How do teaching facilities supply compressed air into their work spaces? You put the compressor in a happy spot where there's electricity and hopefully some walls around it to deaden ...

Re: Glastar Pressure Regulator Footswitch Tubing
Heh, I'm familiar with these. It's not a compression fitting, so put the wrenches away. :) That round center part that the hose slips into needs to be pressed inward. With the "button" pressed in (and held in) you can pull the remains of the tubing out. Once the old tube is out, just push ...

Re: CASTALOT question
I'd told the freight company about it but they evidently thought I was kidding. He wound up parking his truck in a nearby cul-de-sac (much to the fury of my neighbors) and pushing each piece sloooooooowly up the hill by handtruck. Took most of the afternoon. He got the biggest piece about a quarter...

Re: CASTALOT question
S.Timmerman, thanks for the links. I've already read those and still have a few questions, but I think it's time to just start experimenting see how it goes. Heh, the UPS man is BETTER than Santa, because UPS will bring presents for the naughty children too. :D I like Lift Gate Guy a lot but Lift Ga...

CASTALOT question
Greetings All! The UPS man brought me a bag of CASTALOT yesterday. I've never used it so I'm not sure what to expect. Question: One of the first things I'd like to take a casting from is a piece of machined aluminum. Will the Castalot release from "hard" objects like aluminum as long as th...

Beautiful plates! I especially like the "10 slice" one. Very fun!
What can you tell me about the brown glass that makes the background on the piece in the first photo? I love the cobblestone texture that it has.

Re: slumping over corrugated iron
Is your corrugated mold "iron" like cast iron, or is it corrugated steel roofing material? Please make sure that it doesn't have a galvanized coating on it if it goes in the kiln. The fumes from burning zinc are VERY toxic. And who knows what kind of residue it will leave in the kiln to co...
