Re: Flat Lap vs Hand Held
Taking to a high polish takes a lot of time, patience, and a feel for it with any equipment. Can be done with the handheld, but much harder to maintain the flat plane, and also the diamond swirls are much harder to deal with. Even on a flat lap this is tedious at best. The more steps you use, and al...

Re: Prince Rupert Drop
A couple of years ago we did this as part of opening night demo at Pilchuck. Pretty amazing when it works, but it takes a steady hand, and just the right drop.

Re: Air Flow and Anneal
Hi Les! (and Bert). This is a good discussion, and both sides have merit. Of course you can fire either way if your schedules are correct. To me it only makes sense to have airflow. I was in a lecture by Richard Whitely who has done extensive research, even to having up to 4 pyrometers. He found tha...

Re: redo of wet belt sander
Thanks all. For the most part it was not too hard to take apart. I photo recorded the whole thing and labeled parts as I could. Some allen screws on the wheels had to be heated to break loose, and a gear puller to pull the wheels off. Even with that, there were two that would not come apart. On thos...

redo of wet belt sander
wbs old 1.jpg wbs new 3.jpg wbs new 1.jpg So, since I value my wet belt so much, I decided to clean her up. 10 years old and while the bearings, motor and wheels are fine, the bin was rusting up pretty good. No matter how much you rinse it off, the glass crud builds up. I took it apart, had it sand...

Re: screening sandblast media
Thanks Marty, slow but sure I hope to get back in shape! Trying to set up a studio in 400 sq ft after 2600 sq ft is a challenge to say the least. Thanks for the reply

Re: Somaca price
I also have the bee. Bought it new back when new meant $1500!!! Despite trying to keep it clean, it got quite a bit of rust, so I recently took it apart, and had the unit powder coated. I found a place that did a three step, sandblast, zinc coat, powder and clear for $250. I am now rebuilding, repla...

screening sandblast media
I know someone out there has run across good screens, so where can I get some. I have been using fine mesh screen but that really is not the best. I have seen the scientific test sieves, but they are expensive at about $50 or more apiece. Ideally I would like to get a set, such as 80, 120, 180, 220 ...

Re: Somaca price
I would price shipping, as it is not as bad as you think. I shipped a 4'x4' kiln from Portland OR to San Diego for under $250. Add that to the price and it is still a killer deal
