Re: Genesis lg format kiln

Hi Bert, I do not fire clay in there..only glass. However, my studio is built in the lower level of an ol' dairy barn. We poured concrete floors, but they still sweat in summer. Pretty moist in there. I run a dehumidifier at times. But the rust got to it before I was doing this. The rust is on the w...

Re: Genesis lg format kiln

I also love the kiln. Luckily, the evil rust is mostly only on the front inside wall. But that is alot of rust and I have to VERY slowly lower the lid and watch it each time. How are you getting the fiber to stay in place? Did you scrape the rust over before placing the fiber? I hope it works for you!

Re: Genesis lg format kiln

Hi Laurie.. Yes! I have same kiln and same problems for years (and have been bummed out that long!). I carefully vacuum the rust in between the blanket and the lid all the time. I stuff more blanket in there. but the rust keeps on comin'. I have spoken w/ the maufacturer, and they sent me steel plat...

Brock, was that 1/2" thick paper, vs. 1/2" high?

Re: Drape over clay mold - workable?

okay..I see..so the rubber does make it easy to reproduce again.

I will process these options during the night.. I seem to have 'glass relevations' by the morning.

Tomorrow I was going to buy the clay in St. Paul.. maybe not.

Re: Drape over clay mold - workable?

Hi Bert, not sure how an investment is done..but I believe it is much more complex. also, is it re-usable? I don't think it will be trapped, as one end will not be draped over the clay, but more on top. I guess I can go through the process of making the clay mold and trying. Brock..the FP sounds lik...

Drape over clay mold - workable?

I know we are not supposed to drape over a clay mold. However, I am making a complicated shape for a sconce and slumping into it might not work. So, if I making a clay mold, with gentle sides and open at one end (so it doesn't drape there), would I be able to drape over without breaking the mold? Th...

Thanks, Lisa.. I have looked thru the archives in the past months on my 'photographic quest'.. again, it is the issues of 1) transparency, 2) wanting some 'sparkle', ((celebrating the glass), but 3) not wanting too much, cheapening the look.. I am using white plexi, and it is, so far, a pretty good ...

Hi Tony,
I have HP Photosmart and 'My Photo Center". I wonder how they compare to photoelements. I did some research- photoelemets did get great reviews.. just don't want to go out and get another software package that I may not need. (If it would do the trick, though, I'd buy it ASAP!).

Thanks for the thorough response, Bob. I have windows XP with 'Photo Smart".. I have played the the exposure, etc.. but never attempted to work on hotspots. I'll see if I can do that. When you use one or 2 lights, it just appears so dark. I'll give it another try, however. I will post a photo l...

P.S. One technique that did work well was using a pexiglasss stand, with a white fabric behind it.. the light then can come from all directions.. however, then the stand shows, since the piece is transparent.. and that is very distracting.

Tony and Bob, Thanks- yes, I should try a professional book on the topic. I have been playing with the shots for months, literally. I should tell you what I've tried... I am using digital. Tried on a sheet of white plastic.. lit from below and above.. but then the piece ( a shallow platter), appears...

tips-photographing cathedral platters

Howdy fusers, Does anyone have some good tricks for photographing glass platters, etc, all done in cathedral glass? As it is all clear, it is hard to get the right background (white looks best to show the colors, but then the piece looks 'flat"), I need to get it bright enough , but then there ...

Hi Bert, How did your glass painting class go at Millenium? When I peeked my head in when visiting the center, it looked interesting. This particular show is not near to any shippers.. these people are in town for a convention, and won't be shlepping glass around the city looking for a shipper.. so ...

great feedback, everyone.. Charlie, the people are staying at the convention for the whole 5 days.. the show is in the exhibit hall in the same center.. that is why I thought about asking them to come the the booth again, as they will be milling around the area... do you generally ship UPS when you ...

looks like the consensus is to package at the show; less headaches. The downside to this is I need ALOT of pieces so that I don't run out (hope that's so!).. if I hold the pieces to ship later, they serve as samples for the rest of the show (it is 5 days long). The option would be to take payment up...
