Re: Replaced thermocouple

Thank you Bert, I had called Skutt and told them what kiln I had- It was relatively cheap 16.00 with shipping. Im surprised they would sell me something that would not work in the kiln they sold me. It was a two pronged - i viewed this to changed it http://www.skutt.com/video/6_b.thermocouple.html w...

Replaced thermocouple

Hello, I had a drop of glass land on it and replaced it. its just a small hotstart pro by skutt. The first 2 times the glass balled up (frit in a mold) at 1350/10 so i know its going way too hot. It was so easy to replace and im wondering if i did it wrong. I ordered it from skutt so i know its the ...

Really pretty! They look almost like very fine woven glass with stringers? Am I close?

Re: HOW to use this mold

Why not ask the seller of the mold? Please be aware that there are a LOT of "molds" on etsy.com that are not made professionally like the ones sold commercially or by a glass artist. I have seen plenty on that site that will crack glass or just get ingulfed in the glass when slumped.

SG Bevels for casting

I have many pounds of large weird shaped bevels (many from the same maker) and wonder if bevels are any different than non coe glass? Are they more consistent? Do makers of bevels use a consistent enough glass coe to melt these together? Could I take one of the larger 1/4 inch ones and bust it up fo...

Re: Wet Belt Sanders

Thank you again for this. My belt sander takes a 4x64 belt ...it's not a small sander and I can't move it myself . I was quoted 980.00 for an 80 grit. That's the same as buying 150 belts and twice as much as the belt sander cost me (used) I've ruined one belt from it being adjusted improperly .. Sur...

Re: Wet Belt Sanders

Try and find a used older Somaca. They were the tried work horses of the flat glass industry for the last 50 years. The old ones are almost impossible to destroy and most parts are still available. There are 100's and maybe 1000's of them still going strong. Thats what i have- im so glad this came ...

Re: Stainless steel shelf

Thank you very much, I appreciate your help. I had just read that in England glass painters used them and I would love to do less cold work and not pick up the landscape of the kiln wash. Like this piece , it took several hours to make and I'm not sure if you can see in the photo- it picked up every...

Stainless steel shelf

I found a Amish gentleman who works with 19 guage SS and makes those large dog cage liners and wondered if that gauge is thick enough for a kiln shelf. He said he could make a 1-2 inch lip on the edges. Packing whiting for the bed, would one or two inches be better?

Thank you

http://www.creativeceramics.eu/docs/slumping_in_3_steps.pdf[*] My glass made it to the third step. 65 deg an hour ? Really? Could some very generous person look at this schedule and decipher it for Americans? I'm guessing "skip" means 9999. Please I would be forever great full Thank you

Re: Help - stamping on glass

Sorry it took me so long, I had to get home to check. There is a stamping medium by Ranger called "perfect medium". It comes in clear and comes in refill bottles that you can use on large stamp pads. Use a rubber stamp on glass and then dust with enamel..shake off the excess. It will pick ...

It's just a personal preference, here's mine: http://www.skutt.com/glass/products/clam.php This is one of my kilns too- I got it from a nice lady on this board for 500.00- 2 years old and very well maintained. Its great for raking glass and loading a prepared (deep kilns can be challenging) I have ...

Re: Strip to chop

I don't really care how long it's in the kiln. I do care very much if the lines will be straighter and easier to join to other items. What my plan was (is) taking a full kiln shelve of strips, after tacking them or fusing them, cutting them and rejoining them. They are 3 colors and I wanted to cut t...
