I echo what Chip said. With all the different figures that I see, it's very aptly named. I won't go through my Rorschach results, but it looks very Darwinian in a sense. I would like the stand to be black if I had a color choice. Wonderful work!

Home Despot sells the PlasPlug brand. I got a used one from a freind and they went and discontinued that size and no longer sell the blades. Something odd in the 4.0-4.25 range. It says it takes 4.5", but really doesn't. It didn't take long to modify the plastic with a Dremel, but if the...

I was just doing that today for the first time. Outside and it was cold here too. I put on some of those rubber exam gloves and then a pair of work gloves with the little rubber dots. Like a wet suit for your digits. :)

Here it is. Fires much higher than Images, and I haven't used it but have seen good results.

Cristi, Mayco makes a product called Images. It's supposed to be non-toxic and all that. It fires somewhere around 1000-1100. I did some slumped bottles with it, and it turns out OK. I have a trivet that I painted when I was about 4 with ceramic glazes. It's one of the few possessions I still have f...

Tests done. The picture isn't the best. The Carmine and the Fusemaster Chinese Red glossed up nice, the Red for Flesh and the lead-free Red china paint didn't. They also aren't red or ruby either. That silverstain mixing sounds like a very interesting test subject. Wish I'd read that post before I w...

I'll do some tests this afternoon with D22932 Carmine and 1333 Red For Flesh that I have. Also some other things I have around. I'm thinking that the tin side of float may change the colors just like the silverstain because of the metal content of the paint. In this case gold. The D22932 I remember ...

I read this article on the subject in Glass Craftsman mag. It was the last (most recent) issue.

Thanks Diane, most of the glass stayed in the pots so there is not too much to look at, except conehead blobs. :) I did do another one last night. I made the holes bigger in the 2 small pots and it worked so much better. Following everyones advice I kilnwashed the saucer, still didn't have any talc,...

Ashamed?!? Jerry, that is most awesome! I liked it before and still do. Whenever I try to tweak something I'm not too happy with it just comes out worse. :( Now you wanna see something that's a shame? You should see the dog that came out of my kiln this morning. It's not only hideous, it defies desc...

Great tips guys! Thanks. I wonder if whiting which I have on hand would work like the talc, which I have none of at the moment?
I'll post a pic if it's not too hideous.

Clay for pot melt question

I was going to try my first pot melt and I searched the archives, but couldn't find the info. It seems today I can't even find my way out the backdoor. :? I bought the clay pots and some clay saucers and was going to try to suspend 2 small pots with different colors over a larger saucer just to see ...

That is pretty kewl. Reminds me of a scene from that movie 'Pitch Black' when those aliens are flying out of their big cone things to attack the humans. So....... tweak it about 10 degrees left. ps-don't be alarmed, I only see horror movie stuff in inanimate objects when I've spent a day tryi...

As near as I can make out, you all are talking about wet belt sanders right? The prices on this site look pretty good for these, I've been oogling the WBS's for a while, but don't know if these are strictly beginner stuff, and like a kiln I'll want bigger and better before I know it. I have b...

Thanks Tom. It was cone 5 or 6 that I picked up. I think it was an Amoco product. Good thing I put it back. I've yet to find a ceramic store around here that's still in business. At the craft store I did get some paperclay that I've heard of here, and will give that a go today.
