Re: Kilnspace in the UK...........................
Hi guys, Ok, this is a plea for help. I need to rent some kiln space to do a job I`ve been commissioned to do. I need to make 2 windows to be inserted in the middle of a triple glazed unit. The glass is triangular shaped and approx 2M x .9M. So I need a kiln at least 2M x 1M. The job is to create a...

Re: Electric motor quit - please help diagnose
I was using the 1950 vintage shopsmith to drill little holes in glass. It was running along fine for maybe fifteen minutes, and suddenly quit silently. Just like I powered it off. The pulley and motor shaft turn easily by hand. But it won't run now or make a hum noise like its trying to run. It use...

Hi Brian, It's not a cold stuff but a special alloy designed to fit Soda-Lime-Silica glasses. It's for glass-to-metal seals. And yes, here in Argentina you have to buy a full spool of wire. I thought that up-there it would be easier to get two or three feet and try it in the kiln. According to the ...

i guess, it looks like it went milky all the way through. if these blanks do not break, i will throw a piece in later just to cut in half. the rest is dumpsterbound. it is really scratched and pitted. what a pain. on the up side, i did come up with a nice design on one that i will use again. rosann...

Re: Nickel-Iron glass compatible alloy
Hello, Have someone heard about this alloy?. It was designed to fit soda-lime glasses. I thought it would be of use in warmglass creations. Below this I quoted some links for what it's worth. Seek for Alloy 48 http://www.edfagan.com/htmDocs/thermal.htm http://www.specialmetals.com/products/publicat...

Re: temperature limit for kiln wash?
Hi, I tried a high-temperature firing last night (1700 for 45 minutes). It was a really simple experiment -- a pile of glass scraps on top of a piece of thinfire paper. During the soak, the glass pulled in upon itself (as expected) and appears to have wrapped up upon itself, as it left thinfire pap...

Bert, It looks as if playing in the sand box will require some knowledge and use of physics. I'm a bit lacking in the knowledge department. (that's why I'm here) I understand the principle of adding larger granuals to the mix to create a more stable bed to support the glass. I think I read a thread...

Re: Visiting UK
I'll be visiting the UK in March with another fuser. While there we would love to see what fusers are doing in England and meet some fellow glass artists if possible. If not, any stores or galleries that sell glass work would be great! Thanks, Nancy This came up recently lots of places 2 C Try sear...

Thanks Fellows, I learned a lesson the hard way once before, in regards to health matters. Years ago, I got involved in kinetic sculpture racing, (human powered) vehichles that had to be able to negotiate sand, mud and water, besides asphalt. I unknowingly zapped my lungs real bad with a toxic vapo...

Re: Production Sandblasting
I seem to be going through vacuum motors every 2 to 4 months and Skat (http://www.tptools.com) suggests a move up to a dust collector instead of the standard round canister vacuum. Any thoughts on this? I'm blasting 180 Silicon Carbide and the machine's going from 1 to 4 hours per day, 2 to 4 days/...

Bert, I'm a bit confused here. I thought I had a fair understanding of grit/mesh sizes. (Grit and mesh are both the same, grit is the size of the partical that will fit through a mesh sreen, the number specifies how many per inch, right?) I'll have to drive to S.F. to get the olivine sand but, I wa...

Yaa, I gotta get my hands on some geen sand too! I will have to drive six hours one way or have it shipped. Bert, what impressed me most about the table, is how shiny it came out. That's the control I want to achieve with float glass, without all the cold work. Charlie informed me that this thread ...

Re: I want to build my own light box. Help?
I want to build my own light box to use for building pieces on, look at slides...read glass colors when they are layered..... They seem simple but are so expensive. I'm thinkin 18"-20" or thereabouts would be a good size. Size will depend upon what lengths fluorescent tubes come in...or a...
