hi mark, if you use float, i suggest staining or using leaf on the non tin side. the silver can react with tin in alot of ways that seem to me to be unpredictable. i think though that those ways have alot to do with reducing conditions. rosanna

OOOEEE this is gonna be fun! i have everything on hand but the bentonite. will order that today. i assume jointing sand is just clean silica sand? the kind i would use in cement? sure am glad i bought that used glass kiln. this would be a pain in the big scutt. rosanna

Q for nearly ready john

were the impressions made in the sand mis when it was wet, dry or damp? same Q for when the glass was layed on the mold. curiouser and curioser. rosanna ps i am posting this as new trying to get around that darn invalid_session thing

hi john, after that mix was fired on, did they throw it away or put in more plaster/clay/alumina ? it seems to me that those parts would get 'worn out' after a fuse temp fire. what temps were their top temps? i really want to try this. thanks, rosanna

table top draping Q

hi all, i am designing some small table tops. i want to do a drape type thing with the edge. say an inch and a half or so drape all the way around. so what do you think would be a good material to make my mold with? mild steel? rigidised fiber? plaster? anybody got a learning curve to share? thanks,...

hi anne, in 'techniques of kiln formed glass' 1998 ed. by cummings , pages 93 - 98 there is a nicely illustrated section on this. cummings uses this technique to add pre cast shells and eyes and cabs to his waxes before investing. he makes sculpture. rosanna
