Andrew - I applaud your honesty with the show manager. My response is two fold. Not only am I an exhibiting artist, I am also a show manager. Like many groups, my group conducts an annual event which I began managing last year. All members, about 120 strong, are welcome to exhibit in our show. Being...

My wifes scrap are my treasures. Since she can't use tiny pieces I get them for my jewelry work. All contributions gladly accepted.

Thanks to you both. I am looking forward to this and expect to learn alot. We have a growing group of returning students, I've been one of those. More of a social event. Just can't chase us away. I'd be in the class anyway. I've taught technology classes in the past. In fact, I taught this class for...

New Commitment

Here I go again, bringing metal work to the glass board. I belong to a metal working guild and I'm always preaching glass to them. Hopefully all's even. For the past four maybe five years I've taken a jewelry making class through the local community college. We call it jewelry making since that's th...

Geri - My display cases are glass. None of my work is exposed since it's silver, gold, and glass jewelry. In fact I use locking cases. Table covering is black. All I'm really looking to do is make it look a little better, finish the tent a bit. Color to me would be preferable over the stark white lo...

Dani - At this point I'll consider most options. Setup has to be simple and quick. Whatever it is has to pack and travel well. Charlie - To date, the only fire marshall issues I've encountered have been for indoor shows such as the Convention Center. Table coverings, drapes etc have to be treated an...

Pam - Perfect. Thanks very much. I'm getting ready for another outdoor show in Spokane. You know how booths are, always changing, hopefully for the better. More than likely I'll have just the back wall up but even one wall is blindingly white.

Concealing White Tent Walls

Question for those of you using EZ Up, Caravan etc.

What are you using to conceal those bright white tent walls? I'm looking at draperies, sheers etc. Not finding the perfect something yet to mellow those things out.

thanks

I'm with Geri. I'll do some lite packing and double checking. That's about it. Figure if I'm not ready with inventory a few days ahead, I'll never be. Show starts tomorrow in fact. Tualatin Art Splash. I'm playing golf tonight after work. Then get home and complete inventory paperwork for the show t...

Last summer I was talking with a gallery. They weren't interested in glass jewelry , claimed it broke to often. Said, if they had the ability to repair it, the situation might be different. They couldn't or wouldn't explain their experience with breakage. Alarms went off in my head. If my work break...

Remove the top eh. Now that sounds like a good idea. Last August at an outdoor show in Spokane, wind came up blowing 40 - 45 mph. The show was on a bluff over looking the valley. Nice place, but the wrong place to be when the wind comes up. Several nice glass pieces went crashing to the ground, fort...

These things do act like a sail in the wind. Some outdoor shows don't want us using tie downs. Insist on leg pegs instead. As if those things work.

Costco carries the "Caravan" brand. Not as sturdy as EZ up, not as heavy either. We bought one about three years ago, seems like it was around $250. Came with three sidewalls and a coupon for the fourth for another ten bucks.

What I'm hoping to do is cast glass using most of the lost wax techniques. Won't use the centrifuge of course. Sprue base will also change. Instead of carving investment, I'll carve wax and burn it out. Bubbles in lost wax casting can be a problem. Generally these bubbles attach themselves to the ou...

Hey Brad - Glass casting is something I intend to try. Again, no experience with the process. I do cast metal and have Practical Casting in my reference library, commonly called a big stack of books. Often wondered if the investment would work, sounds like it will. Carving the model from wax would b...

evsirl - Of course you should try it. Casting small objects works just fine. A good friend who I got started in fusing is now casting some of her work. She still fabricates the settings however. I cold work every piece I make, then fabricate or cast the setting in silver or gold. Unlike precut stone...

BullsEye Sale

Just had an opportunity to participate in the sale. Wife missed something she meant to pick up yesterday so I'm her goofer boy today. Sale looks good and seems well attended. We're shipping a bunch of stuff to Colorado, The Resource Center is handling that shipping for us, from the store. Makes life...

I just might have a source for niobium. Yet another metal I need to learn. Fine silver might do however all the shops insist on gold, surgical, or titanium. If it clips on, no problems with any of them. All my work is fine jewelry incorporating glass elements. Color, lots of color. The creative juic...

Thanks Kitty. I'm also of the over fifty crowd and very prowd of having no "air holes." Everybody wants these things so who am I to argue? More info collected on the way. Silver is not acceptable due to infection potential. Gold works, even 14k which surprises me to an extent. Surgical ste...
